It must be nice being a top-tier defensive lineman, if this was some peripheral player, he would have been cut in less time than it takes C.C. Sabathia to hit the buffet.


However, RapSheet [Ian Rapoport] believes Smith will begin the year suspended, and potentially even in jail. Smith was already due to appear in court on April 29 on gun and DUI charges before his bizarre Sunday arrest for making a bomb threat at LAX. It's pretty safe to assume Smith won't be appearing in all 16 games this season.

He's too good of a player to just let him walk away. If anything it gives them time to find a trade partner.
