Interesting. Has this formula been backtested and did you create it yourself?

It was designed and tweaked thru backtesting pretty much, again its just a reference though. It really only works when enough games have been played as well. Doesn't work for cross league and other things though.

Hmm yeah I could see the confusion, but for the record I never will call a soccer team by anything other than their city. (I don't even know half the mascots or team names for soccer) if ever say a team name assume its American sports in someway or form.
