Albert Pujols Will Make Approx $35,000 Each Plate Appearance This Year?
WTF
I never looked at it that way before. 35k just to step in the batters box.
Unreal.
That's just sick.

That what happens you pay a guy top dollar based on the past production while he was still in his prime. Still a great player, but slowly declining. St. Louis knew this.
Pujols loved St Louis and they loved him, but they were not going to pay the price for a player whose best years were behind him, let rich teams do that and struggle.
The best player on his team Trout, got a contract for a cool one million for the year, but considering his production and the fact his best years are head of him, will be well worth the $150 mil/6yrs they are likely going to settle.

That's why teams like St Louis wins championships and other teams over pay for guys on the decline. Pujols absolutely loved St Louis, had just built a restaurant there. Easy prop fade material when he left that city. He is in his mid 30's, why don't teams chart/extrapolate production out as a function of age?

To think I'd be set for the year just based on what he earns through the 4th inning of the first game of the season.
Woooooooooooooooooow

Baseball players are so overpaid, no idea how they afford it, stadiums empty and Country losing interest in the game
