Coach K got his knickers in a wad about it a few years back and ESPN made a scene about it. Surprised it wasn't changed then.

Smart is a tool...my daughter goes to OSU...and when she brought some of her classmates to my house over the holidays (which is a whole different story) she told me that Mike Gundy and the guys on the football team were really cool to deal with, but Travis Ford and the basketball players like Marcus Smart and Le'Bryan Nash thought they were special treatment cases around the students Rumors were going around last year that Travis Ford was on his way out but landing a few of these recruits like Smart saved his job, but this latest implosion might spell the end for him

Just a matter of time Kid.
Just like tearing down the goal posts or storming the baseball field.
Too many crazy people , be it in the stands or the players themselves.

You should think about setting her up with Seaweed.

It doesn't even mean a lot anymore. A two point home dog wins and everyone rushes out like it's the biggest upset ever. Same in college football - seems every Thursday night the goal posts get torn down.

Right. It used to be cool when it happened upon team winning championship but now like you say it's commonplace and tired. I hope someone out there comes up with some sort of deterrent to make this go away. College kids want to do this type of thing any chance they can.

Although I agree what smart did was boneheaded, espn is making it out like he's Ron Artest running in the crowd beating guys skulls in, The guy obviously said something that pissed smart off, I'm not saying that puts him in the right but I still dont think this is a national story. Suspend him for a couple games and lets just move on. I wanna know what that fan said to set him off.

The same day, a bunch of students in the student section spit all over ASU coaches and maybe players.
No Joke.

except that this did not happen when fans stormed the court, it happened in the middle of the game.
rule does not come about for at least a few more years and it is another incident that causes the rule, not this one.
book it.

If the NCAA truly wanted that rule, they could use this very easily.

they're not going to pin it on one guy and call it the "marcus smart rule"
nonsense.
many years ago the fans stormed the football field at oklahoma i believe, and a cornhusker player slugged an oklahoma band member. this happened around 2007 or 2008 i believe when neb was still in the big 12. there was no rule then and there will not be a rule because of this.
huge overreaction but that's what people do, they overreact.

Yeah, glad you read my comment right.
ASU students spit all over Oregon coaches, in a game they won.
Easily the worst, Steve Kerr shit being pretty terrible is still their high water marker for tardness.
It's the reason why the U of A / ASU rivalry is one of the only college rivalries that contains a murder as a result of it. Sometimes, an ASU fukktard needs to be put down.
But yeah, ridiculous.

You know who says "Don't storm the court"? Old men like Bill Walton.
Let college students be college students.
They are already getting raped by the tuition payments, so let them run onto a court if they want to.
They need to start storming football fields more often as well.
Let college kids be college kids.
I'm a college student and if GA Tech can ever beat Duke again, I will storm the court and then try to get Coach K's autograph, because fukk it.

It is fun and for the most part safe. Though when you have moron fans who can't realize there's still almost a whole second on the clock, that's embarrassing. At least do it right, if you're gonna do it. Will be ruined eventually by overzealous kids who have no clue about sports.

Bill Walton says don't do it because his team won 88 straight and he never had the opportunity for it.

Even if they do make a rule not to storm the court... how are you going to enforce it when 500 kids decide to do it... then another 100 join in... another 100 more... yeah... go ahead and arrest 700 kids. Hope you have enough cops and handcuffs.

Δ The SEC has had this rule in place for years. Some schools are lax and will pay the fine once every blue moon but you won't see it at an Gator game. They have officers on horses at football games and police around the bball court. The first person that crosses the line is usually tazed and hog tied and taken off like a fattened calf with an apple in its mouth. As a student, you realize real quick not to try that stunt.
Its a safety issue. ESPN had an episode of a hs kid that was the next Pistol Pete. He was incredible but when his team beat a perennial power, the kids rushed the court and in their exuberance he was trampled and paralyzed. It was a tragic story that I think of whenever I see fans rush the field/court.

i was at the south carolina game when they beat john wall, cousins, etc. and undefeated uk
that rule was in place....still stormed the court...school paid the fine
might be a deterrent but really court storming is based on an unpredictable situation so people just react in most cases and that won't stop them completely
