This is the absolutely perfect time for the NHL to promote their product on a global scale to the maximum possible extent they possibly can because those TV rating will reflect what the public wants to see. If you remember the last winter Olympics Gary Betman totally dropped the ball on that one IMO, sir.

I've been trying to watch the women's hockey but it's just not the same, as much as I wanna see the US win I just looking forward to seeing Ovi put up more goals. Who do you guys have winning the gold?

Most likely last year for the NHL players to participate in the Olympics (a few owners have become really vocal about it)

Essentially no real camp or exhibition (for Team USA & Team Canada), so first couple games could prove interesting.

Final: Canada 5, Switzerland 0. Labonte earns 14-save shutout, Flo Schelling makes 64 saves in the loss.

Seems like Swiss goalie was saving the day or it would have been 2 digits. Don't know that much about women hockey so best to stay away!

2010 US and Canada combined won 6 of 8 by 7 or more, only team to cover that spread against them was Finland. Gap has narrowed a bit supposdly and Canada "only" beat the Swiss 5-0, but Switzerland was outshot 48-8 through 2 periods and was down 5-0 after 2. Could easily have been 7 goal difference there and won't be shocked if US covers this, but probably value is taking the Swiss and the goals. Looking into Finland +4.5 against Canada also, Finland better than Swiss with better goalie too.

Obviously US wins, that is a no-brainer. But IMO, Canada WH > US WH. Do the US ladies shut-out the Swiss? Or do the Swiss sneak one or two past the US?

I don't see the Swiss mailing in more than one (lucky) goal here. So playing with your numbers, something like a 7-1 or 8-1 game. One of those scores covers the spread for the Swiss, the other loses by .5.

I see two angles here... US puts up enough goals to win (they'll only need ~2) and takes it easy, saving their legs for tougher competition - or - US makes this a statement game, and puts up 7, 8, or 9 goals - hopefully to a Swiss shutout or 1 (again, lucky) goal.

Hmmm... seems my comment lifted some responses for once, lol.

These spreads are crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 12-0. Taking a look at last olympics, the goal differential for US and Canada's Women hockey teams were incredibly one sided (Canada: 41-2, USA: 31-1). I guess it's not too unlike the rest of the Olympics in that fashion. Some countries just dominate.

So far, however, I haven't seen a differential this large in the Olympics yet. Famous last words. I'm hoping the Swiss' struggle to keep their dignity keeps the game from being as pathetic as their last match.
