History of #1 seeds meeting in the Superbowl.
Since the merger in 1970 #1 seeds team have met 9 times.

Most of these games are blow outs with the NFC demolishing the AFC.

One would think that having the 2 best teams in football the games would be close and very competitive. The fact is one team has always been so dominant that the final scores between all 9 games average a 20 point margin of victory. The smallest margin of victory was 5 points. I realize this is a ultra small sample size and has nothing to do with this years matchup. It is bizarre though, that you get what people deem the best matchup and one team takes the other out to the woodshed. The other thing I find strange is how the NFC has a stranglehold on these matchups going 7-2 SU and oddly enough the Raiders are the only AFC team to win as a #1 seed, which they did twice.
Now again the sample size is too small to gather anything. The Niners and Cowboys make up 5 of the NFC's wins and Broncos and Bills make up 4 of the AFC's losses.

Here are the 9 games with the margin of victory in parentheses.

    SB #11 Raiders 32 Vikings 14 (18)
    SB #12 Cowboys 27 Broncos 10 (17)
    SB #16 49rs 26 Bengals 21 (5)
    SB #18 Radiesr 38 Redskins 9 (29)
    SB #19 49rs 38 Dolphins 16 (22)
    SB #24 49rs 55 Broncos 10 (45)
    SB #26 Redskins 37 Bills 24 (13)
    SB #28 Cowboys 30 Bills 13 (17)
    SB #44 Saints 31 Colts 17 (13)

So there you have it. The Bengals kept it to 5 points and then the margins were 13 or more.

    Just food for thought.

Interesting and also note both Afc blowouts were by my boys who like the Donkos reside in the afc west.

A good piece of information thanks. I'm less interested in whether AFC or NFC won but found it much more useful knowing that there tends to be a lot of blowouts.

Blowouts were very common in Sb's thru most of the 80's and into the 90's the games were over at half. Recent years though we have seen much tighter games decided in the 4th and I honestly don't see that changing today. I'm on Donko Ml -135 tho I think Peyton gets the monkey off today and quiets the doubters. Good winnin!

It appears as though 7 of those blowouts were by the favorite. Also, the Colts/Saints game was much a much closer game then the score indicates. The pick 6 at the end turned it into a 14 point "blowout."

Honestly, why don't you just take whatever money you're going to lose on this and donate it to charity?

At least then you'd be doing some good with your toasted money lol
