2 things can bury a bettor due to the pressure: upping the ante big time in bet size and / or going tout. it's the pressure.
10 yrs ago i was a 61% cfb and cbb bettor at $27.50 to win $25 a game, over a 3 yr stretch . i upped it to $110 to win $100 per game and my win pct dropped to 52% so i was basically losing.
