I've had nearly the same thing happen to me playing rugby, kicked the ball away the opposing player didn't care and smashed me anyway blowing my shoulder out, didn't care then, don't care now that's sport. And to Rangers my friends and family (well not mum!) had a laugh about it and it still get's brought up every now and then.

It was both illegal and dirty and he will be fined because of it. Yes, players have to ease up on their hits and slow things down so they are in more control. If they don't, it's only a matter of time before someone dies. You don't break a guy's jaw with a legal hit. He lowered his helmet and body at a 45 degree angle and directed his hit at the Punter's jaw/face. I get that you don't like it, but it was completely illegal.

ok the Kicker wasn't aware, but it's still a dirty hit. If it's clean it's one that we can all laugh about and the punter just gets the wind knocked out of him gets up and will be made fun of in film the next day. Guy put his helmet right under the chin, that's probably the worst thing you can do.

However, according to Pro Football Talk, Garvin’s hit should have been flagged because it would be considered a hit on a defenseless player. Punters and kickers are always in that category, so it’s illegal to hit them with the helmet or from the neck up.

A helmet to the jaw isn't a clean hit though. I have no issue with the punter getting leveled, but it was not a clean hit. Helmet to helmet is one thing, but helmet to unprotected jaw is another.

Then do what firedawg mentioned and run off the field. If he could of he would laid that same hit on the returner, deserved to get drilled if he's going to try tackle the guy.

Sucks it ended up helmet to helmet and the guy got hurt but I don't think it was intentional and shit happens.
