Best one was Herschel Walker. He was dominant all years in college and he played in the SEC the toughest conference in the world.

Herschel Walker isn't close to the top 3 in my book. He's overrated. He was durable and could carry the ball 30 times a game, but mostly he put up big numbers against bad teams.

In big games, Scott Woerner was the difference-maker for the Bulldogs.

The SEC was terrible in 1979 (Georgia and Auburn finished second and tied for third, respectively, and they both lost to Wake Forest), and it was not that good from 1980-82 when Herschel was at Georgia. And SEC teams only played 6 conference games anyway. Herschel's toughest games were always the non-conference games against Clemson and the bowl games.

Although he played literally 100 years ago, Carlisle's Jim Thorpe is another one who would be a good addition to any list.
