The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement in principle to send Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Kings will send Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes to the Raptors, sources said. In addition to Gay, the Raptors will send Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray to the Kings, sources said.
Toronto general manager Masai Ujiri has abandoned the fleeting possibility of chasing a playoff berth with these Raptors and has accelerated his desire to move into a full rebuilding mode, league sources said.
The Raptors and Gay had become increasingly unhappy with each other, league sources said, and Gay's contract was an obstacle to the franchise's desire to begin the rebuilding process.
Gay is making $17.8 million this year, and holds a player option for $19.3 million for the 2014-15 season. Gay will almost assuredly exercise the option and take that salary next season.
Ujiri is in his first full season running the Raptors. The possibility of Toronto getting into the high lottery for the star-packed 2014 NBA Draft is important, especially with the possibility of selecting Toronto-native Andrew Wiggins of Kansas. Toronto has lost five straight games, and dropped to 6-12 in the Eastern Conference.

Team killer, not a fan of his.
The one good aspect is this will give the starting point guard position solely to Isaiah Thomas.

weird trade for the raptors since they stated last year he was gonna be the face of the franchise. How do you give up your star player when your a game out of the playoff hunt (I KNOW ITS EARLY BUT STILL) If the knicks and nets are gonna be that bad the raptors can take on the celtics i would of assumed. Well there goes the raptors season.

Thank you.
I'm so sick of seeing this guy get defended here. Kings aren't getting "serious" by acquiring Gay -- they're just being the Kings, and slipping further into the abyss.

I think Sacramento has talented pieces, no idea if they're a team.
In my opinion, I'd bet Gay is pissed this happened. He was in a situation where he could shoot 30 times a game and the coach didn't care.
I just hope this allows Derrick Williams to start at the 4 instead of trying to play him at the 3 anymore.

great trade for Toronto. Vasquez will fit in great at Toronto. Remember when Memphis was getting criticized for trading Gay. Gay should have never gotten a max contract to begin with.

this is an even deal, swapping players that no other team in nba would want except kings and raptors.

Can't have 2 ball hogs(Gay and DeRozan) in the same team who want to play hero ball all the time. DeRozan will be the go to guy now.

This should put the Kings over the top. I think within a year or two they will be a real force in the West. Watch out.

Beginning of season I said the Raptors were tanking for Wiggins, Gay was going to be gone and Lowry was leaving. Gay's contract was just TOO MUCH.

I know Acy and Gray never really played but still now short 3 bodies. i'll lay off this game but can see Lakers covering in a charged up home crowd with kobe back and other players on Tor perhaps a bit distracted on these moves today bc they may be worried about their own playing
time going fwd, etc.

Vasquez is a player. So soon we forget he led the league in assists last year. Since kingsf have zero motion and zero offensive sets he didn't fit in as a distributor. Put him on the spurs and he'd average 11 assists a game.

Great move by raptors here as they lucked out someone would take him.
Yet another horrible move by the Kings who just love to be the worst team in the NBA now that the Clippers gave that position up.
Gay is terrible, one of the most overrated players in the NBA. Also a cancer, he will never win.

Greivis Vasquez is under-rated. He will flourish in the NBA very soon. Surprised kings dealt this guy. However, Kings are trying to get athletic and right now, they have to be one of the most athletic teams in the nba
