Actually I think I would've been better off doing a 2 team/6 pt teaser and taking carolina -1/ pats -1 $500 to win $455

I thought both teams would win anyway, so why throw in the third play to get less money? Because most of the time the +2.5 doesn't matter, like you were saying.
