Thanks for the links .. one of the traders in the original Market Wizards book was also working on this concept with the apprentices, and it is very useful in terms of going deeper into line movements for sports betting.

the amount of ignorance displayed in this thread is flabergasting and all advice is terrible. go to www.coursera.com and check out the machine learning course. search for classes on big data, teaching cars to drive like people, AI to view and identify letters... and financial modeling and engineering is an actual major you can get which is virtually the same thing as betting sports.

Just because you major in Criminology doesn't mean you wanna be a criminal.
People who take courses on the Holocaust don't necessarily wanna be skinheads.
I know tons of people who study Theology & they don't believe in God.
So, why not a sports gambling course. Doesn't mean that you wanna become a degenerate gambler like I am.

I haven't seen anyone mention "risk" in this thread.

I know there are books on it. The (financial) world is based on it. I'm sure there are classes on it. "Risk" applies to everything in life. Including sports betting.

this advice is just terrible. statistics and machine learning are two different fields. most math PHDs would be useless building predictive models for sports.
