Malzahn is already picked and that Mack has agreed to step down while also expressing his support for Malzahn. Supposedly Saban is a smoke screen. I talked to one of my friends just 5 minutes ago about the Saban as smoke screen while we set things up with Malzahn and he said yes, he'd been hearing the same thing. I'm going to try and speak with my other source who is one who will confirm something for me as far as what is going on now. If he says that Malzhan is our guy and the above is true, I will believe this to be the case until shown otherwise.

#2I would be stunned if Auburn would let him walk without a fight...their recruiting etc. would be crushed. The Auburn deep pockets will not go down without some sort of counter offerComment -

Those who said Saban would go and that Tex would do whatever to get Saban HAVE TO BE 200% SURE Malzahn would goComment -

#10So we're basing this all on some dude's "fanpost" on SB Nation. Seems solid.
It's someone posting to try and see how many hits they can get or if some idiotic network (Hi ESPN!) would be dumb enough to pick the story up to try to be "first" to break a baseless rumor.
UT made a solid hire for AD with Steve Patterson, but there's a large question of how much power he has in making the actual decision on hires and fires. UT has same old school influences who have more of a say in this than Patterson does because of their deep pockets. Most of those deep pockets are pro-Mack Brown too.
I lived in Austin for about five years and there's no doubt that the major power players are outside of the Athletic Department and not actually the ones with the titles ... it's that way with many "powerhouse" schools in power conferences I am sure. UT though seems overly big in this though.Comment -

Auburn WILL NOT let UT take another coach from the Plains! They have done it to many times in the past., no way it happens again!

Or, at least remind the doc that your brain appears to be in your ass. And they're not doing you any favors by removing what little you have.

#22gotta love coaching searches. After recently going through one as an Arkansas fan, I can tell you that you should believe exactly 0 people who are "in the know". Can't tell you how many times I heard people who said they knew someone on the board and they "claimed" to know what was going to happen. In the last three days of the Razorback coaching search I heard multiple "reliable sources" claiming anyone from Patterson to Gundy to Malzahn (kinda wish that one had come to fruition). None of them became the coach.
IF anything slips, it will be hours before they announce, not days before.Comment -
