I have a degree in Hospitality (Casino) Management and I was curious about the typical shift schedule for Sportsbook Writers and Sportsbook Shift Supervisors in Las Vegas. Does it vary? Are they set? There are casinos down South, but it is nothing like the "real" one in LV. I will eventually be making a career move to Las Vegas because of my background. True industry knowledge would be appreciated.

#10Well the Casino GMs and execs are making 200k + easily... most of them started out entry level or ticket writers. For that im willing to make the short term sacrifice lol.
Some ticket writers can be grumpy. Some are that way because they expect patrons to tip them after a win lol.Comment -

#14Cause the economic/job market has changed the last decade or so. Used to be you could just work your up with a HS diploma, now casinos like to see degrees related to field. Along with being more competitive, I think its because the casinos have become more and more commercialized over years, more complexed, and managers now having to answer to stockholders on the Stock Market as well...IMOComment -

#15I have experience and im familiar with the casinos down South through their Racebooks and weekly parlay cards... its still somewhat different compared to Vegas and their Race & Sportsbook systems. This is why I was curious about how their shift schedules work.Comment -

You have about a 1% chance going from the sportsbook to any kind of upper management position.
Your pay will be garbage, and unless you work in the pit you will never even get looked at.
And as for your "Short term sacrifice", you don't really have any idea how this business is. You will have to put in 15-20 years minimum right now in a Vegas casino to have any shot at one of these jobs (Unless you know someone).
You are loooking to be in the wrong field. Casinos in general are the wrong field.
Vegas is dying even though they are making money again in the casinos this year.
Unless you're a stripper or wanna be a cokktail waitress with huge fake, you're not making any money here.
90% of upper management comes from table games, then about 9% from slots. That last percent would be classified for a miracle/well connected person who just gets it because he knows someone.
Get into table games and learn dice right away. And get used to choking on cokkks for the next 15-20 years to get where you wanna be.
Casinos are flooded with ppl who have been there forever waiting on guys to die just to move up one spot in the chain. And Vegas is the worst. Least turnover for any area right now would be in Vegas Casinos I'm sure.Comment -
