What does a 6.20 ERA, 1.66 WHIP in 81 1/3 innings get you? How about 8 million? LOL

Josh Johnson 1 year 8 million with the Padres.

Can't wait to keep fading him like I did all last year.

This contract is almost as laughable at the Redsox giving that shortstop 10 million last year for batting .210 the year before.
Some of these contracts are just horrific.

Was there really a bidding war for JJ here to where they had to give him this money?

I bet you there were teams offering him 8 mill for 3 years the way he looked last year.

I'm not saying he can't still be decent again, but for a team like the Padres who hate spending money and love to give talent away, I don't see how this is a good move for them.

Wait for Ubaldo to get $15+ Mill a year.

He pitched well for 1 half of baseball.

I'll bet you every point you got he doesn't get 15 per year.
      Not even close.
But he will get some money just because of his past and he showed a sign here n there of improvement.

Yeah but you're talking about him declining an initial offer for one year.
He wants a 4 or 5 year deal which he has 0 chance of gettin 15 per bro.
So I will let YOU save YOUR points.

Ubaldo will get 15 mil. without a doubt. Great job by the Rockies to let him go. He is a decent pitcher but not worth 15 mil.

As far as JJ Padres probably just hoping the change of scenery helps Johnson and he will without a doubt pitch better in the NL not to mention Petco Park.

I couldn't believe the Indians gave him a qualifying offer of $14.1 for 1 year. Guy had 1 good fukking half of baseball. Other 3 halves he was fukking horrible.

8 million does seem really expensive.

especially for an organization like the Padres.

I enjoyed fading him last season too but i think he's got ace caliber stuff when he is right.

He has a high upside and should benifet from pitching at Petco Park.

John Lackey gets paid 18 million a year and before this past season he had a rough couple of years.

John Lackey was a beast last year and a beast before he signed his contract as well. He's back now if you haven't noticed he was in bulldog mode during the entire playoffs.

The reason it's dumb for the PAdres is because not only are you throwing away 8 mill for a guy who could be finished, but if he happens to crush it again you don't even get to keep him after that.
Lose-Lose situation for the Pads here. They aren't winning anytime soon anyways.

An athlete (especially a baseball player) being overpaid and/or getting paid at all for shitty performance? Nothing is new here.

                          for 1 year

they only gave him the qualifying offer because they knew he would turn it down, as he is looking for a multi year deal of course.

now when he signs elsewhere they get a draft pick.

doesn't mean that his per year worth for a multi-year deal will be worth more than 14.1

He knows this. That's why he didn't follow through with a bet here.
