Two of the worst targeting calls of the year in the Georgia Vandy game. This rule had to go.

#6They will have this rule for awhile if not forever, because Ed O'Bannon and others like him know football is the way to get college athletes paid. Easiest way to say that colleges should pay players is that they didn't protect them and cause them to have life long illnesses from the concussions they have suffered from playing football.Originally posted by ttwarrior1they won't have this rule next year, can't believe he was ejected, likely cost them the game
That is where the lawsuits to force colleges to pay college football and basketball players is going. Once college football has to pay, basketball will follow.
Supreme Court already ruled in the Maurice Clarett case that everything was legal including non-payment to players as it concerns not being able to go Pro . So lawyers know not to attack it from that angle.Comment -

#7This is the worse rule in Football, as football is a contact sport where collisions that sometimes are unavoidable happen. You know football and injuries happen when you play the game, and it is a personal choice if you want to participate in sport that can be vicious at times. Ohio State is about to lose there 1st All American cornerback because of the bullshit.Comment -

#1110 to 20 years we are looking at paying college players if they go to a major school/conference.

#14Then they should make the game flag or touch football, as it is a contact sport that involves incredible speed and size.Originally posted by SmokeKeep the rule. Keeps the game safe.Comment -

#15Because the targeting rule was put into place because the NCAA is worried about the Ed O'Bannon lead lawsuits including the one for concussions. Which only purpose for the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit is to get college basketball players paid (O'Bannon was one). He saw the easiest route to do that through college football.Originally posted by UrbanwildlifeWhat does this have to do with the purpose of thread?????
Not sure the link between Ed O'Bannon and everything else, but it is there for football. In some convoluted way he is leading the charge.Comment -

#16Exactly!!! If you can overturn the ejection you should be able to overturn the call. It's like saying, "We were wrong about the targeting call, so the player can stay in the game but we're going to enforce the penalty anyway, even though it was the incorrect call." I mean... WTF is that???? What a joke.Originally posted by daneblazerCost Georgia the game today. I like how replay "reverses" 75% of these ejections basically admitting it was a bad call.Comment -

#19It does not. For the most part, the hitting has very little to do with concussion problems and dementia. You'll yell at me and call me an ignorant asshole (or whatever) but it ain't me saying this, it is just me repeating it. No, I am not a doctor, but I have ears and eyes.Originally posted by SmokeKeep the rule. Keeps the game safe.Comment -

#20The logic is that it can still be a hit to the head without it being targeting. Which is ridiculous.Originally posted by CanuckdaveKeep the rule. However if the ejection is overturned, so is the penalty.

#21Originally posted by UrbanwildlifeWhat does this have to do with the purpose of thread?????Stop it. The O'Bannon lawsuit has nothing to do with this rule; it concerns the NCAA, EASports, etc. making millions of dollars off the players names/likenesses. Last I heard concussions aren't a big issue in NCAA/NBA basketball.Originally posted by DoYouNotGetITBecause the targeting rule was put into place because the NCAA is worried about the Ed O'Bannon lawsuits including the one for concussions. #23You guys are just now getting pissed about the targeting rule??? Shits been awful since week 1... Coach bellotti (old oregon coach) is the dikkhead taking credit for coming up with this nonsense. It's really ruining the game not to mention I like big hits that's pretty much gone because all these defenders are afraid of getting the targeting callComment -

#24The ugly consequence of this rule in college and NFL is that you're seeing an increase in lower body injuries. Georgia had SEVEN scholarship recievers and two running backs out last week against Missouri with lower body injuries and lost another receiver today.Comment -

#27The sad thing is there's always been rules against hitting a player in the head or with your helmet (spearing), they just rarely enforced it. Especially spearing in the NFL. Now they've gone overboard. Guys like John Lynch, Rodney Harrison, etc. would have spent more time suspended than playing.Comment -
