NBA defenses have become as close to zone as you can get without triggering a defensive 3 seconds. There has never been as big of demand for perimeter shooters as there is now, and the Pistons chose NOW to become a run/jump/dunk team? That's solid, but not spectacular for a player expected to take most of his shots within the three-point arc. The mid- to long-range jump shot should prove to be Smith's undoing for any team considering offering him a max deal.

That's not a one-year anomaly, either. In 2011-12, nearly 43 percent of Smith's field-goal attempts (470-of-1,191) came from 15 to 24 feet, according to NBA.com. He only knocked down 169 of those 470 shots, just shy of 36 percent.
In 2010-11, over 38 percent of his field-goal attempts (400-of-1,041) came from that range, according to NBA.com, with him knocking down a surprisingly solid 39 percent (157-of-400) of those shots.
Smith has long had a penchant for his jumper, despite the now-common knowledge that long two-point attempts are the most inefficient shot in basketball in terms of percentages.Comment -
