Federer double fault or some other choke

#13he has to catch a good draw and have murray pull an upset or nadal not be 100% ... he is still a top 3 player in the world, so for anyone to call on him to hang it up, they are merely showing fukktard ignorance
its not like he lost to a scrub today

#15He can't win a grand slam anymore. Of course he is still a good player, but he shouldn't linger on like Leyton Hewitt or Mike Tyson or Chuck Lidell or goddamn Darius RuckerOriginally posted by raydoghe has to catch a good draw and have murray pull an upset or nadal not be 100% ... he is still a top 3 player in the world, so for anyone to call on him to hang it up, they are merely showing fukktard ignorance

#18Clay is his worst surface. If it wasn't for Soderling, Federer wouldn't have the career slam because of the French Open and Nadal. Guy won Wimbledon last year and was in the finals of the Olympics. No reason to hang it up. I think he plays through 2016 to play in the Olympics again. The gold medal is the only thing he doesn't have.Comment -

#19i agree. he will probably play 12-14 more slams until hes done for good. 31 is ancient for tennis but he can still go 5 sets and play for 6 hours if need be. i bet he gets to a couple more us open or wimbledon finals in the next few years.Originally posted by MUHerd37Clay is his worst surface. #22Lol ridiculous thread. Possibly the greatest player of all time who still plays well enough to get himself to the quarter finals of a Grand Slam on his worst surface (His 36th consecutive quarter final in slams).
The man loves to play tennis and is still a great player. 1 bad match does not change that. You embarrass yourself making such foolish comments.Comment -

#23i took a prop on my book before the french open, -350 that fed wins no slams in 2013. but thats far from being irrelevant. its really up to fed if he wants to hang around and be a top 10 player for a few more years or just move on to something else. he obviously doesnt need to play.Comment -

The Federer brand is simply too valuable to abandon. Until it falls from grace significantly, Federer won't stop playing.

#29Centaur busting some balls in this thread.
When should an athlete retire? Specifically a "hall of famer." In their prime, right after their prime, or when he can't be number one? Until he can't play any more? Or maybe in the case of tennis, when a player can't win any more slams? I can definitely see the argument for Federer retiring if in fact he can't win any more slams. It's a matter of preserving legacy by finishing on a high. If his level of play continues to decline so that the BIG 4 become the BIG 3 his overall dominance over the span of his career falls. It really depends on personality, priorities, pride (no shit? right). Some people can handle the fall from grace better than others. Although he could add to his legacy by adding titles, remaining in top 10 @ __ age etc. Anyway he's made it clear that he'd like to compete for many more years and I think the majority of fans would love to see him play even if he doesn't win another slam. I would also bet he would remain top ten for some time to come.

#32Honestly, except for that 3 or 4 months from March to June, I don't think there's no big four anymore... So we might actually see a big two? I still think Federer has something left in his tank, but like someone said a while back here, he needs to get in better shape.Originally posted by ohumadCentaur busting some balls in this thread.
