#39I have NEVER won at blackjack in my life but I always feel the need to go back.
My latest escapade has been with counting single decks. I used to be really good at counting cards in college, then I went to Vegas one Christmas and lost $300 at the BJ tables. That ended that...
After my $300 loss weekend, I played BJ for fun. I'd brag to my co-workers that I could take $100 to Vegas and play an entire weekend (they would lose it in a matter of hours). But after I discovered sportsbetting, I NEVER went to the tables again.
Until recently.... I saw a youtube for card counting. And I thought, "hey... it's never fukking worked before, but what a fukking great idea! Let's try counting cards again!" I had some extra cash lying around from selling stuff on Craigslist and I won my last big MLB bet of the season (cards v braves), so I proceeded to play over the course of 3 days. I swear every fukking time I sat at a table, I left $100 poorer. It was insanity... even bigger insanity because I don't have a lot of disposable income right now.
People say the tables aren't rigged. I dunno? Maybe not at the Strip, but there's casinoes I go to, every fukking time I lose. I don't know how they do it. My only guess, is the guys who wrote the book on BJ odds are liars, and those odds are not true at all. IMHO, there's NO WAY to beat the BJ tables.
So, I took the last of my meager MLB winnings for the year, and put them on Tigers Game 3. Well, you know how that turned out.... Last year, MLB pretty much paid my rent. I wasn't expecting to pay rent with it this year, but it would've been nice to be up a few cents after a tough season. I'm mad I pissed it away at the BJ tables. Casinoes know what they're doing, they know if they can lure you in (with cheap food, free booze, whatever...) you'll see the tables. And even though I hadn't played in years, and even though I KNEW the tables can't be beat, I found myself at one, pissing my money away.
Cheap story, yeah, I know, I'm a cheapskate. I could never be one of those people who sell their car, then proceed to go on a $3000 tilt-binge. But what got me was how similar our stories were, just mine on a smaller scale.Comment -

#43good read OK...U missed a great chance when you had a bankroll on booking sports in the FRAT community in college.....yes some risk for sure you could have lost it all but +EV +110 can really add up and there are a ton of campus type bookies around..
also it seem you missed organizing group poker games, with no RAKe and your a top player that is free income
how did you miss those two opportunities?Comment -

#44I feel like that's how it is for everyone I talk to about black jack. And I never in my life could have guessed I'd be playing up to $500 hands at the black jack table, but that's whats so horrible about it. You lose hundreds making $25 bets, and then lose thousands making $100 bets to get it back. Its a twisted concept, but damn is it addicting.Comment -

I'm not too concerned about whether people trust my validity. It's the internet, people lie on here regularly. I know everything that happened, and anyone is welcome to take from it what they like. However, if I was lying, I would have made it a little more action-packed than it is.Comment -

#54Story seems eerily similar. Typing this on an iPhone so excuse the autocorrect.
I've been gambling since I watched the wsop with moneymaker, I began to play online under my dads name at poker stars and play poker with my buddies on weekend, used to play 10 games then it escalated. I am a very sound poker play but could not play sngs that were not turbo, I would lose concentration. I mastered the art of the hyper turbos on poker stars before Black Friday and made about 6-7k playing the 88 and 125 dollar hyper t against the poker stars pro. It was such a rush, I'd multi table 6-8 and cash out half my winnings every 48 hours. I was about 18 and had about 12g in my checking, instead of putting it in a savings I'd sports bet some of it and lost a couple hundred here and there, after Black Friday I exclusively started sports betting, lost big.
I have no sense of bankroll management, I live for the action and overvall have lost about 8k gambling. I am 20 now. I used to use poker to supplement my income but now it's impossible with these Mickey Mouse poker rooms. I also played a lot of 23 turbo and 34.50 turbos hu on poker stars. I wish I could cut sportsbetting out but I love the shit. I dominate fantasy football leagues every year but cAnt win at sportsbetting, rough.
Overall I am a losing sports bettor and a winning poker player, but I continue to lose excess money I have on Heritage, 5D etc. I will never take a loan to gamble but have run a lot of excess money down the tubes, hoping to turn it around, I've had a coue good runs, cash outs of 500-1k but redepositing constantly kills it all.
It's a rough lifestyle and need to cut back sportsbetting if I want to save anything. CheersComment -

I know, he admits stealing from his mother so how's this a heart felt type of story?
then he concludes by saying he 'repaid' like that makes it okay. How about buying something special for her something with all those 'winnings' big shot?!Comment -

#63When I was 21 a friend invited me over to his place to play poker. There were 8 players and I was easily the worst as it was my first time playing. I lost about $200 but didn't care too much, it was fun.
A couple days later I was at his place and he introduced me to pokerstars and real money online poker. I gave him $60 and after I got home and made an account he shipped me $60. I sat down at 1/2 NL and ran it up to $120 in about 15 minutes. I felt like the greatest player of all time. I jumped up to 2/4 and lost it in about 20 minutes. I felt everyone else was just a luckbox.
I had a CC and about $9000 in my bank account. Jump ahead to Christmas and the 9k was gone and I owed the CC 2k. Had to come clean to my parents (I was at university at the time). They paid it off and gave me $100 a week 'allowance' for food/gas/utilities etc. I played when I could but it wasn't very often. I would sit and watch the high-stakes internet games for hours on end. I would read everything on forums and ask questions. Everything changed 9 months later. I discovered propping. I met VegasVixen in 2004 at partimepokerprops.com and would often see her at the tables.
Every Tuesday I would get rakeback and it was a glorious moment. The only problem was the first few weeks I would lose all my rakeback in a few hours. I hated losing and having to wait until the following Tuesday. I became more patient and my play continuously got better and better. As well, the sites had very few players and there was never anything higher than 10/20 limit (I was a now a limit hold'em player)
I started winning/receiving checks in the mail. Over the next 2 and a half years I paid off my parents and had over 60k. I kept 5k at mansion (I was only playing there at the time -- 150% rakeback) and kept 5k in neteller. The gamble would come back sometimes. It be gone for over 6 months or happen 2 days in a row. It came back one night and I sat down at 10/20 NL table. I sucked at NL and within half an hour the 5k was gone. Deposited the 5k from neteller and sat down with $2500... I would often reload back up to table max. It was when I only had $916 in my account and had lost all hope.
I withdrew that $916 and said penetrate it, I'm done. I didn't play online poker for about 3 months and decided to check mansion as I knew I would get some rakeback. $76 in my account and I lost that in about half an hour. Since then I sometimes get the bug and will deposit $50 or $100 and lose that and not care. I've had a few gambles get in me with betfair poker and have probably lost at least 10k in the last year being stupid and playing poker without the proper roll or table management. I haven't played there since May and my sports betting bankroll thanks me for that.Comment -
