    MNF: Jets vs Dolphins Prediction
The first of 2 Monday Night Football games features a pair of winless AFC East Teams when Miami hosts New York at 7:15 PM ET on ESPN. SBR's Gary Pearson breaks down the action in his Jets vs Dolphins prediction:

    Dolphins -2.5 (-115 Caesars)

"There isn't a smack-you-in-the-face advantage for either winless team on prime time. However, the Miami Dolphins enjoyed an additional three days off after losing to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football.

And despite most people's condemnation of Tua Tagovailoa's play, the Dolphins QB had his team within a score of leveling the game late in Buffalo against the Super Bowl odds betting favorite.

While Tagovailoa's interception, which scuppered his team's chances of completing the comeback, was inexcusable, at least he had them in that position in one of the most challenging buildings to play.

Justin Fields, who will start after clearing concussion protocol, was dreadful against the Bills at home in Week 2, finishing with a 30.7 offensive rating (PFF) and 3-for-11 for 27 passing yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter.

Yes, the Jets almost pulled a Houdini act in Tampa Bay without Fields, but they have their special teams to thank for having any chance whatsoever.

Both teams are brutal in most statistical categories, but the Dolphins are surprisingly tied for the second-best rush EPA per play. And while Miami's defense is the second-worst in terms of DVOA and the worst in EPA per play, it made significant strides in Buffalo against arguably the league's best offense.

If the progression continues on both sides of the ball, I like Miami at home to cover the spread."

    De'Von Achane Over 5.5 receptions (-105 BetMGM)

"Achane hit the Over on this total in the last two games, finishing with eight and seven, respectively. Tagovailoa turned to his running back more often in checkdown situations in the previous two weeks, and the offense looked better for it.

While Achane struggled to accumulate yards against Buffalo (29), he was utilized frequently in quick dropback scenarios, something that will likely continue while Tagovailoa works on restoring confidence."

SBR's Phil Wood has his Jets vs Dolphins player prop bets ready to go:

Breece Hall Over 56.5 rushing yards (-114 via FanDuel)

"Hall has combined for just 50 yards in his last two games following a 107-yard outing in Week 1. However, he didn’t top 10 carries in either contest, as his team was playing from behind. I expect a much different performance tonight against the league's fourth-worst run defense.

The Dolphins are allowing 145 rushing yards per game. They’re also giving up 4.5 yards per carry, which is 1.2 yards more than what the Buccaneers, Hall’s opponent last week, permit. Hall only ran 12 times against Miami last season, but he still managed 57 yards."

Justin Fields longest completion Over 32.5 yards (-110 via BetMGM)

"The Dolphins have only given up eight passes over 20 yards and one pass over 40 yards this season. However, they enter tonight’s matchup allowing 8.9 yards per attempt, which is the second-most leaguewide.

Fields’ longest completion in Week 1 was 33 yards. He topped this mark in three of his six games last season, and the signal-caller was two yards away from hitting this Over against the Raiders. In 2023, the last time Fields was given total command of an offense, he hit this Over in eight of 13 games."

Tua Tagovailoa Under 0.5 interceptions (+104 via FanDuel)

"Tagovailoa has already thrown four interceptions this season, including at least one in every game. However, I expect him to do a better job taking care of the ball tonight.

The Dolphins and Jets are two of three teams that have yet to intercept an opposing quarterback this campaign. This is a great matchup, and Tagovailoa hasn’t thrown an interception in his last two outings against the Jets. Additionally, while Tagovailoa is turnover-prone right now, he threw interceptions in just three of his 11 games last year."

      Jets + 2.5 (or 3)

I can't believe I'm betting this dog poo of a game, but if Fields can't put up pinball numbers against that defense, he never will.
The Jets have very favorable matchups across the board.

1* jets only, these are bottom-feeder teams after all.

Jets or nothing for me, nasher. I can't bring myself to bet a dime on Miami given all the regression/drama over there in South Florida.

In reality, Jake, NYJ should be 2-1.
