Just curious, because I can't remember one. I certainly don't think a black coach has ever won the SB.
Has a team with a black head coach ever made it to the Super Bowl?

#2I think Tom Flores is as diverse as it has ever been.
Funny, my pre-playoff pick, NE-NO, is the only combo that would keep this odd streak alive.

#3Thanks Jay.
Not that I think this is some kind of angle to play the Saints and Patriots, but it would certainly be an interesting story if both, or even one, go.Comment -

#4Art Shell as close as it gets:
Playing offensive tackle, Shell participated in 24 playoff contests, including Super Bowls XI and XV, and was named to eight Pro Bowls.
As coach of the Raiders (at the time located in Los Angeles), Shell compiled a record of 54 wins, 38 losses, and was named AFC Coach of the Year in 1990, when the Raiders won the AFC West division with a 12-4 record, and advanced to the AFC championship game in the playoffs.Comment -

If you use Championship Games as the criteria, Dungy has come as close as Shell 3 times.Comment -

#6Denny Green also with the Viks made NFC championship game in 1999 I believe. The year they were 15-1 and lost to the Falcons.Comment -

#8img,
Jay Edgar posted the answer and it is NO. Tom Flores is the only minority coach to even reach the Super Bowl.Comment -

#11I don't remember much about Tom Flores, so I goggled him. He had a very respectable career as an NFL player & coach.
He coached the Raiders to two Super Bowl wins (XV & XVIII). He was preceded by Madden and succeeded by Shanahan as Raiders head coach. Interesting stuff. He was also hispanic, which I did not know.
As for imgv94's question, no black head coach has coached in a Super Bowl. But, Denny Green's Vikings of 1998 should have made it with their 15-1 record and hosting Dan Reeves' Falcons in the NFC championship game. That game was marked by a missed FG by Gary Anderson in the end of regulation which would have won the game. Anderson had not missed a single FG all season up to that point. The game went into OT, where Anderson missed another FG. The Falcons went on to win. That is probably the closest a black head coach came to getting to a Super Bowl.Comment -

#12Looks like Jay Edgar has already done the research above, but no black head coach has ever taken a team to the Super Bowl, and it aint gonna happen this year either. But eventually it will.Comment -

#14If you bet against the streak ending this year, you better get +488.
You'll need Payton's .444 chance parlayed with Bellichick's .383 chance, according to the current moneylines.Comment -

#15I actually like that +488 dog ML parlay myself, and it has nothing to do with race. I think Saints are stronger of the two, but I do like Pats also. In real life, I am playing Saints on moneyline (waiting) and already played Pats +3 +105.Comment -
