    NCAA Futures - 08-09 Champion
Hi im new to the forum/sports betting online - and Im learning alot here.

Anyhow, curious to see if anyone else has identified/bet on a team they think will survive next years madness.

Prior to monday, i wouldn't have said UNC but given that Lawson, Ellington and Green are returning its hard not to pick them. I was fairly certain Lawson was gone but i guess DUIs dont help your draft stock. So they are the obvious pick (originally at +400, now they are down somewhere in the +333 region on some sites). I managed to catch the line at +450.

However, other teams im intrigued by are

    +1200 UCONN
Experienced core group of players with Thabeet returning. Price, when hes not tearing ACLs, is a decent PG.

    +5000 Gonzaga
Without Pargo they have an experienced team, with him returning, this makes it even more difficult not to pick.

Some guys, like Andy Katz, has Gonzaga actually ranked higher than UCONN, which i tend to disagree with but if you need that to justify your pick, so be it.

It would be hard to bet against UNC to win the title. They will have a better team then I can ever remember coming into this season with their whole starting five back along with the multiple blue chip players Roy Williams recruited for this season. They won't lose too many games I will tell you that.

Yup, and it looks like it wont be getting worse in the future. Rivial's has 5 guys within the Top 55 of the 2009 recruiting class with strong verbals to UNC. Further, John Wall, the number one ranked, recruit lives in NC.

Also, it seems like the future UNC is going to be very Lopezesque. Number 54 and 55 are a PF brother-duo; both nearly 7 feet.

It's still a little too early for me to start talking about college hoops that in depth, because I'm not up to speed in regards to the transactions, eligibility of players, recruits, ect, ect. However, I can say very confidently that the Zags +5000 is not a very good bet at all IMHOO.

Gonzaga is always good for a game or two in the tourney, but then they often run into teams that simply have too many athletes and/or depth...

Are you looking for value plays to scalp later? Wake Forest has a young team. The SEC is loaded. Both Texas and A&M will be better than people expect despite losing key players. Texas is very deep. But I agree NC should be favored and they would be my pick. Not sure of the odds vs value but they will defintely make it to the final 4.

Too early. Why do you want to have your money tied up for 10 months?

I agree with UNC being hard to bet against.

But futures bets are mostly sucker bets with huge juice and tie up bankroll too long.

That said, bet McCain for pres. I don't know how he can lose this election. Especially since the Reps seem to have fixed that last 2 elections anyway, why stop in 2008?

My thoughts exactly sir. Besides, football should be what everyone should be focusing on right now.

Gonzaga is a legit top 10 team. They have at least 4 future NBA players. I love Pargo and Bouldin in the backcourt. Throw in big man Josh Heytvelt and the best player on the team, Austin Daye and you have a great chance at a Final 4.

UConn has a lot of value. The center might be better and they are the rough type of team on the inside that can intimate the run and gun teams like UNC. They just arent deep with upperclassmen.
