Best half time bets sunday 2/10/08
Canisius +5.5 (H)
Canisius is playing at Manhattan. These two teams met in Jan 08 and Manhattan won the game 59-55. Manhattan led at halftime 38-35 and outscored Canisius 31-30 in the 2nd half. Canisius is 4-19, 2-11 conference and Manhattan is 8-15, 2-11 conference. Both have indentical conference records. Manhattan being the powerhouse it is, has more victories in nonconference play. I think 5.5 points is too many points for this close game.
Furman +6 (H)
Furman is playing at home against NC Greensboro. These two met in Dec 07 and NC Greensboro had a come from behind win. Furman led at halftime 38-34 before losing 75-63. If we take a look at some recent NC Greensboro games on the road, the results of those games suggest that NC Greensboro is not a good first half team. They are good a 2nd half team especially if they fall behind in the first half. Against Elon, NC Greensboro fell behind 33-24 at the half and came back in the 2nd half to win 61-57. Against the Citadel, NC Greensboro fell behind 43-37 at the half and came back in the 2nd half to win 74-63. Both Elon and the Citadel were underdogs. NC Greensboro is only 6-6 on the road. NC Greensboro has trailed in many of these road games.
St Louis +1.5 (H)
St louis is playing at Richmond. St Louis is coming a tough home loss against Xavier. Xavier built a 13 point halftime lead and almost gave the game away in the 2nd half. St Louis is a much better rebounding team and these two teams met last February. In that game, St Louis outrebounded Richmond 33-17. St lOuis had 11 offensive rebounds while Richmond had 4. Even though Richmond has a better record 12-9, 5-3 conference than St Louis 12-10, 3-5 conference, the oddsmakers are not making Richmond a bigger favorite (Richmond is favored by 2.5 points). In that game against Richmond last season, St Louis jumped out to a 38-21 first half lead and won the game by 10.
Troy +5 (H)
Troy is playing at home against S Alabama. These two met earlier this season and S Alabama was 15.5 favorite in that game. Troy led that game at halftime 47-46 and lost the game 84-73. Troy plays S Alabama tough in previous meetings especially in the 1st half. Troy has nothing else to play for except to spoil S Alabama's great season.
Rider -3
This game is a total mismatch on paper. Rider is playing at home against Sienna. Rider played earlier this season at Sienna and defeated them 89-75. Rider played a strong 1st half and led by 25 points at the half (59-34). THe reason why I think this is a mismatch is rebounding. Rider outrebounded Sienna 44-18. Rider had 14 offensive boards compared to 2 offensive boards for Sienna. Look for Rider to pound the glass and thus take more shots. I usually do not like taking favorites at the half and this is an exception.
St Josephs/Xavier U66.5 (h)
I like the under at the half. Its early game and both teams will be a little tight to start the game. Last season these two met and combined only to score 48 points in the 1st half as Xavier led 26-22 at the break. There is some good news for the under here. St Joes starting center, NIvins, is listed as questionable. He missed the last game against Duquense and they lost 102-88. Without Nivins, St Joes will really try to slow down the game. And they lose lot of points in Nivins. Nivins scored 24 points on 10 of 13 shooting in the last meeting between these two teams.Comment -
