It's hit & miss like any other bet really. 2nd half bets I believe are easier to cap since you get a gauge on the teams through the 1st half, etc. Just my two cents. I'm probably 50-50 on 1st half bets myself, about the same as full games.

It really works in college especially going with the underdogs at halftime on inflated lines. Last night with a full schedule of games, 80% of the underdogs covered last night. And if we look into games where the favorite is favored between 6 points and 16 points, the percentages go up. Last night, I had NEw ORleans, Kent St (cannot be they were underdogs), Idaho St, Ohio, and Providence. I like getting at least 3 points for the underdog at the half. Remember big underdogs have something to play and they try hard to make the game respectable especially in the first half. I also like unders in the first half of games. There is really no fouling (fouls leads to freethrows). There is also no overtime to worry about the total going over. The main reason I like half time betting is that it takes only hour to win and you do not have to wait 2 hours plus.
Minnesota +8 (half)
Minnesota Timberwolves will have an extra day off to get ready for a rematch with the suns. Wolves defeated a tired suns team last time. The Suns are coming off a victory over the lakers last night. I think the wolves will look energetic while the suns will do just eneogh to get the victory. I think the suns may have the hangover effect of beating the lakers. The suns were not a happy team after losing to the clippers and so took it out on the Lakers. If Bynum was playing, the suns would have lost. The Suns are a terrible double digit home favorite. Half time they are really bad.

I play any team that is a dog for the game if the second half spread is equal to or greater than the dog's game spread. These are hitting at about 90%. Example, a week or so ago I had Toronto for the game at +9, they were +9 for the second half, both bets won.
I play any favorite where the absolute value of the second half spread is equal to or less than the absolute value of the game spread divided by 4. If a favorite is a second half dog then they are an automatic play. Example, a fav of -10 would be a play at -2 1/2 to pk or any + spread amount for the second half. These hit at about 65%.
Please note my sample size on these is not large, your mileage may vary.

I don't play too many halfs but it does seem like its profitable. I mean at halftime I always have had a good handle, of whats going to happen in the second half (especially in college sports). As far as first halves go, Im no so sure where the edge is. I would actually like to see stats on many favorites covered a halftime line without covering for the game.

I have searched high and low and I cannot find any quarter or halftime ATS stats.

actually..if you look under the team stats in the match ups..it does show the average each team scores and gives up in the 1st half and on the season, and if the current game is home or away it shows those stats as well. For instance, tomorrows game Miami Hurricanes vs NC State...
Miami avg 30.3 and opp 25.3 in the first half on the road
NC State avg 31.7 and opp 26.5 in the first half at home
if the first half line is 59 or higher take the under...
