How far the Terps have fallen. a few years back the terps were cutting down the nets as champions and williams was being called one of the best 3 or 4 coaches in the nation. ffw to today and the terps prgram appears to be at an all time low, that is, unless you look at the recruiting class they have coming in for 08/09. The terps hit rock bottom in a loss to American a couple weeks back, but they followed that with blow out wins over delaware and svst. needless to say, both of those teams are awful, but the young terps needed that bit of confidence moving forward. prior to the season people were suggesting that vasquez may be heading pro after this season, the fact is, he wont be headed pro after his sr season. the terps are not a very talented team at any spot right now and they really struggle from beyond the arc. james gist is the lone pro prospect on this squad and hes been playing well below the level that the terps were hoping for. MD has a fairly slow back court, but osby and gist are quick/athletic in the middle. they can get to lose balls and block some shots, but they arent true difference makers at this point in the season. osby is a turnover waiting to happen.
Most know the UNC charlotte is a team thats neve scared to play the 'big boys' and this season has proved no different. UNC char hit its high point of early season when they beat wake, but they truly hit a low point with a loss to monmouth of NJ. in the loss to monmouth Charlotte only hit 57% fromt he line, 24% from 3 and 19 of 51 from the field overall.
Both of these team stay in games by holding their opposition to low fg percentage and playing a hustling style of basketball. as the ACC moves forward i think the books will adjust to just how bad i believe the terps to be this season. Tucker has a decent future in the acc, but most of this team wouldnt have played for any of the last several versions of the terps. hayes and vasquez are decent guards, but hayes cant get his own shot or play defense and Vasquez spends too much of his time out of control and forcing offensive possessions.
i like the small school in this one.
