Winthrop/ND Thoughts

I'm probably one of the few that actually think ND will route Winthrop in this game.

UNC(3) by 7 in Charlotte,NC
Maryland(16) by 11

Key wins over Miss St, Old Dominion, and Missouri State all on the road

Notre Dame has several bad losses to St. Johns, South Florida and DePaul. They were 5-7 away from home. Of those five wins only one was what I would consider a good win: Maryland. The other four were Syracuse twice, Cincinnati, and Rutgers.

Key wins at home include Louisville, Marquette, and Nova. Granted they gave Georgetown a good game but still lost.

I am leaning Winthrop on the ML in this game. Anyone like or dislike this play. Only saw Winthrop play the Texas A&M game which they got thumped pretty good, so any input is welcome.

I've completely switched my mind on this game. At one point, I had Winthrop rolling to the sweet 16. Now, I think they get knocked out in the 1st (may keep it close).

You are considering the following to be "good wins":
Key wins over Miss St, Old Dominion, and Missouri State all on the road.

But not Syracuse(twice) on the road (as ND did).

And while Winthrop may not have any bad losses, they don't have any great wins either. They COULD win (if ND goes extremely cold) but I think this is a case where the "dog" is becoming so "in-your-face" that they lose the basic elements that make a dog so attractive in the tourney. People see them coming. They are almost too popular of an upset pick for me.

Thanks for the input. Just to be clear Baba a good win to me means you beat a team ranked equal to or higher than you. A good win in my system is relative to your own ranking. Notre Dame is clearly a superior team to Syracuse and should win that game. Maryland, in my rankings, is a superior team to ND and thus a good win for ND.

Winthrop may be popular, but when I can get an equally talented, better coached, more experienced team, you can be certain I'm playing them.

I'd agree with Razz. Missouri St. played a tougher schedule and had a similar record. Syracuse lost to Wichita St. at home while Missouri St. went 3-0 against em'.

Not sure about a route - but I like the Irish. Having watched alot of Big East ball, they are underrated. I think Winthrop being the trendy pick by the "experts" also sells me on ND.

Damn, I didn't even notice. I have been watching Texas A&M CC dominate Wisconsin. I already played Winthrop for the game so now I can keep watching the Islanders game.
