This situation sure doesn't help the Vols chances this year. They were stacked last season, and are completely stacked this year with like 4 returning starters. However, the loss of Crews is a very big blow for this program.

Tennessee suspends F Crews indefinitely

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Tennessee sophomore forward Duke Crews has been suspended indefinitely from the men's basketball team due to violations of team rules.

"Duke is a very intelligent student-athlete but has made some poor decisions," coach Bruce Pearl said. "It is in his, as well as the team's, best interest that he is suspended at this time."

Crews averaged 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds as a true freshman in 2006-07. The 6-7 forward led the Volunteers in blocked shots (32) and field goal percentage (51.8).

Tennessee finished 24-11 last season, losing to eventual national finalist Ohio State in the regional semifinal of the NCAA Tournament.

Well, This is why Pearl suspended him.

This isn't all that big of deal at all really IMO. A lot of college players/kids smoke this stuff, and will continue to do so too even despite the risks. He should just feel fortunate he wasn't caught drug trafficking like Mackey that Indiana recruit was yesterday.

Police say they found marijuana in apartment of Tennessee's Crews

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Marijuana was found in the on-campus apartment of Tennessee basketball player Duke Crews before he was suspended from the team, university police said.

Capt. Keith Lambert said no one was in the apartment when the two small bags of marijuana were found Monday by housing personnel investigating a complaint of loud music.

Lambert said Friday the case had been turned over to university administrators.

Coach Bruce Pearl announced Crews' suspension Wednesday, saying he "made some poor decisions."

Crews, a forward, started 18 games as a freshman last season, averaging 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds. He led the Volunteers in blocked shots (32) and field goal percentage (.518), as the team went 24-11 and reached the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament.
