I mentioned taking Yale either at home or away. They play today but the line was 20 so I stayed away. The mentions above are mostly meant to be guidelines. Use your head to bet. This thread is meant to show us that we need to put in a little more effort than what seems obvious.

10-6 Charlotte is an underdog to 6-10 Old Dominion. Doesn't make sense, right? Old Dom is 5-1-1 ATS at home. This will also be a revenge game as Old Dom lost by 6 in Charlotte just a little over a week ago.

Yale was an outlier. No way Yale is going to beat an African American university on Martin Luther King Jr. Day by 20.

I have a tendency to stay away from spreads larger than 10. I always wonder if a team is going to get up by something like 15 and then the lesser team puts in a big effort at the end to look good. I've seen that too many times.

So I limit my pics to spreads less than 10. There may be an exception here and there so it's not a hard fast rule.

I have a spreadsheet that lists Home ATS records since and including 2017 and another one that lists Road ATS records for the same time period. Howard had a home ATS record of 4-16 so you can see that this should only be a guideline. Like I mentioned before, this is not for lazy people. Take the few extra steps to search out other factors.

Prairie View has a 2-10 road record yet they are favored over Jackson St. I used this angle last week with Oral Roberts who was 1-8 on the road. They had played some good teams and kept it close.

Now we have Prairie View. They have an 8-3 road ATS record which means they play their road games close. Jackson St's only recent home win was against 3-15 Alabama St.

They were up by 13 with 7 minutes to go when Charlotte hit 3 3-pointers in a row. Those are the breaks I guess.

I can be a bit happy with my pick in that they won the game with such a disparity of records. It makes me think I may be doing something right.

I'm passing on taking Colgate -9 over Bucknell. Buck is 2-7 ATS on the road and Colgate is 5-2 ATS at home but Buck has won 4 out of their last 5 games so they have confidence and momentum enough to cover, IMO.

So Carolina St won by 16 their last game which was at home so they are able to cover a higher spread. MD-E Shore has never played a game on the road where their score was within 9 points. They lost by 10 points their last road game but that was against 8-10 Norfolk. So Carolina St has covered 7 out of their last 9 games.

Yes, all 3 covered the 1st half line.

I mentioned above that Charlotte hit 3 three-point shots in a short amount of time and then hit one in the last minute. Not too upset about it.

There's one point I want to make and that is that I passed on Colgate -9 because Bucknell had been doing well recently. Colgate covered. Oh well.

I have one for Tuesday already. This isn't a small school and I'm going to limit my large school picks but I thought I would drop in a school form a major conference if it's on our radar.

Illinois gave Purdue a beat down of 63-37 a couple weeks ago so why is Purdue favored by 5 1/2 here? Purdue is 6-3 ATS at home this season but even better is that they are 26-14 the last 2 seasons as well. Look for a revenge game at a place where Purdue is serious about playing in front of their fans. They beat Michigan State by 29 last time at home.

San Diego St used to blow out teams early in the season. Not as much anymore. Perhaps they think it's a long season and they have to conserve energy.

Add in the fact that Wyoming is 4-1 ATS on the road and SDSU is 3-6 ATS at home and you have a recipe for a Wyoming cover with this big number.

I didn't want to over think this one so here goes.

14-6 Utah St has a 10-1 record at home. However, they haven't beaten anyone by 14 since Nov 18 (except for pushover teams with no spread). After starting out the season well they have lost 4 out of their last 5 and are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games.

Air Force hasn't been beaten by more than 14 in their last 9 games. They are 4-2 in their last 6 games and are 4-2 ATS in their road games.

Linesmakers are making too much out of Utah State's record and aren't accommodating for their recent slide.

Slipping in a big school pick. Ga Tech is 6-1 ATS on the road and has been keeping them close. Louisville seems to be doing the same as San Diego St by not blowing out teams lately.

Kenpom and others have Marshall favored. Weird scheduling. Those two play each other again this Saturday.

As for Western Carolina, I’d want to know if Carlos Dotson is playing. He was out vs ETSU and they got killed.

Just going by the formula here. Bradley covered 8 out of their last 10. Their last game was a loss against UNI so they will be looking to bounce back here. Illinois St 8 out of their last 9 and are 1-5 ATS on the road.

Abilene Christian 10-3 ATS overall including 5-2 ATS on the road. Sam Houston 1-4 ATS at home and their only cover was against a cream puff of a team.

On a side note, I had mentioned to watch Western Carolina and Western Kentucky as having good records but being underdogs. Western Carolina didn't cover but Western Kentucky did. I'll look out for similar games in the future.
