Why did Vandy get in again?
They lost 90% of all the big games they played in this year.

You can't just play good teams, you have to beat some of them too.

They looked like they didn't belong.

    BigD,

i was wondering the same thing and similar stuff.... i don't understand college basketball math. tourney and basic power rating..

things vandy IN vs teams like St Mary's OUT i think will cause NCAA to have to restructure selection process or just expand the tues/wednesday games, which i think they should. yes, it dilutes but the thing has been diluted many times in past. HUGE HUGE interest in play-in games.

i did cursory check. vandy beat alot of big name teams... i wonder if that's partially where selection committee is biased. is beating kentucky and LSU a huge deal to them even though the team's publicity vs. their play this year is "out-of-whack" (ky because they are #1 program in america generally. LSU due to simmons).... doing this from memory that vandy beat ku and lsu.

one of my favourite power ratings has 13-loss vandy miles ahead of 6-loss oregon.......

i checked vandy's non-conference record and it was horrrible. played alot of good programs but record was terrible vs. those programs....

i'm a huge pac-12 and Cal Bears fan. strikes me there were way fewer soft spots this year for pac-12. WSU and somewhat ASU.... pac12 had a few upstarts that did well (cal, USC, oregon state, even washington) and two tradition good programs with off-years (UCLA, stanford) but they were still "decent" teams. so i think pac-12 was stronger than normal this year (mostly cal, usc, oregon state) but not sure power ratings capture this.

within the SEC, it seemed like south carolina was on the bubble with 2 losses fairly far into the season, whereas 6 or 7 loss teams were semi-locks to get into tourney.. haven't checked SC's non-conference but i will now.
