Front Page NHL Picks (Wed., Oct 15)
Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars to sneak Over 5

    Game Time: 10/15/2008 08:30 PM -
By: LT Profits Sports Group | who2beton.com

The Predators have had little trouble scoring vs. the Stars, and that should be the case again vs. what has been a shaky Turco. The Stars can score too, so go Over.

Now we normally like to look for Unders early in the NHL season as we feel that totals are usually inflated the first couple of months, but this matchup between the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars appears to be an exception.

The Stars opened the season with a wild 5-4 overtime loss vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets, and then they were understandably fatigued when the lost 5-1 to the Predators at Nashville the very next night. They have now had three days off since that game on Saturday, and that fact plus the return home and the revenge angle should all equate to an improved offensive performance.

What has been more disappointing so far has been the performance of goaltender Marty Turco, who has a 3.91 GAA with a very low 86.4 percent save percentage. The Predators have had success against Turco recently, as well as vs. the Stars in general, averaging 3.60 goals per game in the last five head-to-head meetings.

This is not the first time that Turco has started slowly, so look for both teams to find the back of the net enough to push this contest Over the total.

Free Pick: Predators, Stars Over 5 (-125)

Chicago Blackhawks -135 skate past Phoenix Coyotes

    Game Time: 10/15/2008 08:35 PM -
    By: Ben Burns | experts.covers.com

The Blackhawks entered this season with high expectations behind one of their best teams in years. Play Chicago on the money line when they host the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Blackhawks lost a tough one last time out, falling in a shootout vs. the Predators. Coach Denis Savard noticed improvement though saying, "I thought it was a much better performance. They worked and battled better than they had."

Despite their slow start, the Hawks still have high expectations for this season. This is their best team in several years and they'll be highly motivated to earn their first victory this evening. Note that they're still 5-1 their last six home games, dating back to last season.

Unlike Chicago, the Phoenix Coyotes are off to a 2-0 start, upsetting Anaheim by a 4-2 score last time out. However, if we look at the last couple of seasons, we find the Coyotes at 19-26 (-4.2) when coming off a game in which they scored four goals or more AND a money-burning 13-23 (-6.9) when coming off a victory by two goals or more.

The Hawks are 4-1 the last five meetings in this series and I look for them to earn their first victory of the season tonight. Consider Chicago.

    Free Pick: Blackhawks -135

Phoenix Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks stay Under 5½

      Game Time: 10/15/2008 08:35 PM -
By: Jimmy the Moose | sportspic.com

The Under has cashed 20 of the last 29 meetings between Phoenix and Chicago, and 11-2-1 when they meet in the Windy City. Bet the Coyotes and Blackhawks Under.

The Under is 1-1 in the Phoenix Coyotes' two games this season, but if you go back to last season the Under is a profitable 8-3-1 in their last 12 road games.

The Chicago Blackhawks have played the Under once this season and it was in their only home game of the year. The Under is a profitable 11-5 in Chicago's last 16 home games. The Under is 11-2-1 in the Coyotes' last 14 trips to Chicago and 20-7-2 in the last 29 meetings between the clubs. Look for another low scoring game tonight. Play the Under.

      Free Pick: Coyotes-Blackhawks Under 5½ (-110)

Holmes, that score was 3-1 Preds. Precisely why I'm not really sold on an over there myself. Best of luck.
