Hopefully we can get back on track tonight. Not too worried, it's only 1 night into a long season.

Tampa Bay vs. Carolina. Roloson has looked great all preseason and Tampa should be able to start off just like they left off with all the veteran leadership they have.

Detroit vs. Ottawa. Even though Detroit is heading in the wrong direction they still have a solid lineup that can score goals and play well enough in their own zone. Ottawa is in the midst of rebuilding. Big time! I would make this a 2*, but because it's so early, I will back off any bold (-1.5) predictions right out of the gate.

Good night last night. Not only because Dish Network has free Center Ice Package until Oct 23rd and I was able to watch all the games last night or the fact the Minnesota Gophers looked good for the first time in a while, but I hit on both games last night.

WSH/CAR - Under 5.5. Played 6 times last year and not one game went over 5. Usually, the beginning of the season teams want to establish a sound defensive game. And goalies are usually ahead of scorers this early in the season. Washington 2 Carolina 1

Pittsburgh - ML. Penguins looked impressive in their first game against Vancouver and should be able to handle the Flames who in my prediction will be the worst team in the Northwest. Pittsburgh 4 Calgary 2

NSH/STL - Under 5. Two very sound defensive teams with great goaltending. Was hoping for the 5.5 on this one, but will still take the 5. Guessing a push, but if not, more likely to land on a win than a loss. The Blues usually play towards their competition, which would make it a defensive game. St Louis 2 Nashville 1.

Minnesota - ML. Although Columbus has been successful against the Wild, Minnesota has done extremely well on home openers. And now with a legitimate top line, they should be able to come away with the W. Was hoping for a -120 on this one, but still confident enough to make the bet on the -135.

DET/COL - Over 6. Averaged 7.25 goals a game against each other last season. Colorado plays a wide open style, not concentrating enough on the defensive side of the game. Yes, they got a new goalie, but it won't be enough to slow down the potent Wings offense. Not to mention all Colorado's young goal scorers.

San Jose - ML. Took 5 of 6 from the Coyotes last season, all by more than a goal. San Jose has made some trades to make their offense and back end better this off season. The addition of Burns should make their team a Stanley Cup contender again this year. San Jose 4 Phoenix 2

3-0 on picking teams to win (even by -1.5) but 0-3 picking over unders. Maybe I should have stuck to winners. It made me think about it so much that when I get back home later tonight I am going to see how I did on all my over/under picks from last season and maybe scrap them unless I got a lock.
Only two games today!

Pittsburgh ML. How can you not bet with these guys right now. They are probably the best coached team in the league. And the scary part is they are only going to get better. Although they are coming off a game from last night, I believe they will jump on the Oilers early and ride out the W with great system play.
Tom Renney is 7-0 all time in season openers. Soon to be 7-1.

Only a couple games on the docket for tonight. I am going to stay away from the Pittsburgh game because of all the injuries. Lost the game a couple nights ago due to the shootout. Always a tough way to lose, but I saw it coming as soon as they tied it with all Edmonton's young talented players for the shootout.

Minnesota - ML. Ottawa is terrible this year, not scoring any goals in the first two periods of either game. Minnesota should get off to a fast start and have the goaltending to hang on for the win.

A whole slew of action tonight. Not going to give a game by game breakdown due to the amount of time it would take. But here they are. I will give my reasoning for so many picks. I believe that it is easier to make money by betting on more games and going 5-3 or 4-2 or whatever it may be, than it is to put all your eggs into the basket of one game. And this was belief last season, not just because I have lost two shootout games in a row. LOL.

Actually it's +145. 600 in wins and 455 in losses. There are two 2* in there so you double the bets on those. Wins of 200, 200, 100, 100. Losses of 105, 135, 110, 105.

Ytd, not sure right now. I will put that altogether next week some time. Going on a hunting trip this weekend. So tomorrow could be it for picks til Monday. We will see.
