What do you guys think about Kane wearing #9? I guess most of you are too young to remember Hull but to put this in perspective, imagine the Nordiques back in the league in the next few years and some young player has the nerve to wear #19. Or the Whalers...#10.
Hull is arguably the greatest goal scorer in NHL history. The Rocket Richard trophy should probably be named after him as his numbers were better and Richard lit it up during the end of WWll when the league was a bit watered down (calm down frenchies, lol).
Something that is rarely mentioned about the 1972 Canada-USSR Summit Series is that the two best Canadian players at the time didn't play. Orr (injured) and Hull (because he signed with the WHA). Imagine if these two guys in their prime had played?!
Anyway, Kane went public that he was going to ask for Hull's blessing to wear #9. Some might say that's an honourable gesture but by doing so he puts Hull on the spot. How in the hell can Hull not say no at this point without looking like a dick? It would have been much more noble for Kane to make the request in private. Regardless, the Jets' management are really the ones to blame for this. Where's the respect for history and tradition? They should have never given Kane the option.
