Defending Champs In 1st 10 Games of Regular Season
I Looked up the last 3 teams to win a stanley cup and how they did the following year in the first 10 games

    Chicago Black Hawks (2009-2010 Champs)
    W/L-5-5
    Goal Spread-+1
    Money made by a $100 Bettor- -$93

    Pittsburgh Penguins (2008-2009 Champs)
    W/L-9-1
    Goal Spread-+25
    Money mase by a $100 Bettor- +523

    Detroit Red Wings (2007-2008 Champs)
    W/L-7-3
    Goal Spread-+6
    Money mase by a $100 Bettor- +148

There is not a strong trend but it may be worth a shot
Personally i think chicago is the weakest of these 3 teams to win a stanley cup and boston ranks close to detroit.
Just thought id share this information with anyone thats ever though to check it out.

Also note that all these teams where positive after there first 8 games.
    Chicago-----+107 then they lost 2
    Pitssburgh---+422 then they won 2
    Detroit------+189 then they won 2

So i will blindly be the Bruins for the first 8 games and then decide for the last 2 at that point in time. The only thing holding me back is that of the Bruins first 10 games they wil play 7 at home so they may be juiced real hard. Especially against the Hurricanes, Leafs, and Avalanche. Theyll probably be between -250 and -300

Any thoughts. Maybe jst avoid this all together? Got 3 months to decide

    Good info, thanks!

I will probably look into how the Stanley Cup losers respond the following season. Could be interesting.

I always thought cup champs suffered more of a "Stanley Cup Hangover" to open up the new season. Interesting that it isn't quite as bad as I thought.

I just wonder what the lines would be on those games. Surely most of the public would be heavily on the champs and therefore smash the lines. Like the info though JA, I'll keep it in mind. Cheers

Oh yea the lines are extremely over valued. The RedWings where a -300 fav over the leafs in there first game of the season and lost 3-2 Money for the Leafs

Anyone taking -300 lines is hockey is crazy. Goalies steal games left and right all the time.

Boston Won't win another cup in the next 20 years, Tim Thomas won it for them clearly and he won't play the same this year, fade the bruins!

                            Chicago was better than boston.

in the last 3 seasons the defending champ was positive after there first 8 games. I might blindly go for it with boston. they will play 6 of those games at home against PHI,TB,COL,CAR,TOR,SJS and 2 on the Road CAR,CHI.

I think they will go at least 4-2 at home and split the road games if not win both. so they should be (5-3) or (6-2) to start the season. looks semi profitable. Are there better positions Probably....

2010 Playoffs Chicago was definitely better than 2011 Boston. The team Chicago iced for the 2010 opener, however...
