The fact that the New Jersey Devils were going to have to fire coach John MacLean had been a given for some time. The real question was not, ‘what if?’ but ‘when?’ and which one of two former Devils’ coaches, Jacques Lemaire or Larry Robinson, would go back behind the bench?
Two days before Christmas, and willing to incur all the ‘bah humbug’ wrath that will presumably be visited upon him, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello gave us the answers. Today - now - in time for tonight’s game against the New York Islanders, and with Lemaire, who has consistently rode to the rescue for this franchise, ever since he got a chance to coach the team way back in 1993.

Rumour mill has been swirling quite some time regarding these two. Darryl Sutter has made some bonehead decisions. Allowing Cammalleri to walk, trading for Jokinen who has been invisible, keeping Bouwmeester and Phaneuf, then trading Phaneuf away and receiving 3rd and 4th line plugs. Bouwmeester has also been a very big disappointment. But I don't believe now is the right time to can the Sutters. They should fire Darryl Sutter just before the trade deadline, and Brent Sutter after the season is over. The Calgary Flames season has already sunk, there's no point trying to change the head coach to try and light a spark under an already lackluster and mediocre team. Another thing to point out is the current status of Jarome Iginla and Miika Kipprusoff. In my eyes I believe Iginla diserves to win a Stanley Cup. Will it happen with the Flames? Doubt it. Maybe it is time to start rebuilding for the future, and trade away some of their veterans for draft picks and younger prospects. Not only would it be respectful towards Iginla who has given his heart and soul to the team, but beneficial for the organization. Overall, don't be suprised to see at least Darryl gone before the end of the season. Anyone who replaces Cammy, Phaneuf, Bertuzzi, Lombardi with Jokinen, Bouwmeester, Stajan, and Hagman should instantly be canned.

I don´t get it, what happened to the Devils. Gonna get beat in their own building by (now) the second worst team. They truly deserve to be at the very bottom. But it´s very, very sad. So many aspirations before the season started.

don't get me wrong bro, i totally agree with you. but you gotta agree (if you watch some of the games) he is letting up alot more soft goals than i ever seen before. also, he had one hell of a D in front of him during the olympics last year and still failed. again, it's hard to get going when you spot the other team 2 early goals on a daily basis, and ya it would help if the 100 million dollar man scored once in a while.

Lou always made nice trades and signing over the years and thus always had above average teams. Then he abandons all that successful strategy to put a whole bunch of eggs into one kovalchuck.
