    Ed's NHL Picks
After being absent from the hockey forum for about a year I have decided to start putting up my picks again. My strategy is very simple - I take underdogs/puckline on favourites/over-unders that give a good return with a goalie-centric view. I use European Decimal system when I talk about odds.

    My early game picks:
    Flyers ML @ 2.15
    Phi/Pit over 6 @ 2.10
    Car/NYR over 5.5 @ 2.05
    NYR -1.5 @ 3.20

My reasons for the Phi/Pit game should be simple. Fleury's been a hack all year. All of Pittsburgh's losses came with him in the net, including one to the Flyers. The last 3 games he's played have had 7 or 8 total goals.

Car/NYR is a bit of a hedge play. Carolina's played in a lot of over games lately, except the last one where they've been shut out. I'm very suspect of Cam Ward and Lundqvist hasn't played great either although he wasn't in goal against the Thrashers. I can see this game being 4-3 Rangers or 4-1 Rangers. When you consistently bet the least likely scenario, you only need to go 1-1 to cash in and that 3.2 return on the Rangers winning by at least 2 was too juicy for me to give up.

      Atl ML @ 1.95
      Chi -1.5 @ 2.25
      Ana ML @ 2.00
      Ana/NJD over 5.5 @ 2.10

I know Buffalo is supposedly the better team but they haven't shown in so far this year so I'll go with the home underdog.

There is no reason to believe that Edmonton will be remotely competitive in this game coming off a road loss yesterday. They've played their last two games close but then before that they had 4 losses in a row of 2 goals apiece.

The Devils have been dysfunctional all year and Anaheim has played decently at home. Both teams are adept at giving up a lot of goals and not scoring many so far this year but I think the advantage goes to the offense as both teams have decent looking lines on paper and the over/under is still affected by the "Brodeur effect".

My goal for tonight is to go 4-4 or better with high hopes that I'll hit on the NYR puckline.
