You know what's lame about the NHL forum:
Dudes on the NHL forum love to tout themselves on the header of the the thread instead of what the thread is about.

    Goddam douchebags love to tout:
(insert douchbag's handle here) season long thread
(insert douchbag's handle here) NHL picks.

Come on guys, we want to see the plays for the thread, not a repeat of the handle of the starter of the thread. Besides, your handle is already underneath the title of the thread so you really don't have to repeat it in the title of the thread.

So you want everyone to eliminate their names from the thread title so every thread in the forum reads "season long thread", "NHL picks" or something of the sort?

I guess I'm a douche bag according to your post but I'd rather my thread not simply be named "totals"

Bobby my man- I'm not saying to just say totals, or season long thread, I'm saying to put what the thread's picks are about.

Be more specific to the plays. Alright Bobby, title the thread with the play. Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly- sorry about that. If somebody else can explain it, cool.

Well most are season long threads so you wouldn't have a new one each day to label the play

What mlb said. My thread is for totals and its the same thread everyday. I couldnt put any specific game in the title. I wouldn't know how to title it any other way than "totals" if I didnt put my name in it. Looking at a thread titled "totals" is a little boring to see day after day.

Sounds like you don't want to take the time to read the threads; you just want to read the title.

Unfortunately, there's really only two ways to do it.

                  One thread per day.

                  One thread per poster.

So which sounds better, a comprehensive thread with all of the posts by a single person, or a new thread each day.

By the way, you can't edit the title of the thread after two days. So, whatever you call it, it's stuck.

Okay Bobby, what I'm trying to say is that you just don't put "total", you put what total that you're leaning/wagering/discussing.
It's a little more conventional for people to see what the thread is about. Then, people know what you're on and choose to open the thread. That way, it's a little more practical for the people surfing the forum.

                    Makes sense?

Again no, it doesn't make sense. I have plays on the nucks/hawks total today but I can't put that in the title because the thread was started 2 days ago. Its the same thread all year with different plays day after day. It would be impossible to put specific games in my title.

So Bobby, what I'm asking you to do is that you title a new thread "nucks/hawks total". If you do that, then people scanning over the thread know what the play is, and they'll open it up.

But some of these tools, who have these season-long threads, you have to open up to the last page, and scroll backwards carefully to get at the post for the play. That's a little less conventional.

New day, new pick, new thread. Making sense yet?

                          darrell,

They are season long threads. There is more than one play in each thread.

I know what you're saying about the thread titles though. That is because the hockey forum players tend to track their plays pretty well. Hockey is a war of attrition much like baseball, with huge streaks which results in peaks and valleys in the player's bankroll. In this sense, they are more disciplined, or at least more honest than players in other sport subforums.

                            Darrell,

The threads are for tracking, a single place where a player's record is contained. It keeps them honest.

What you are arguing is season threads versus day threads. I think most agree that season threads are more significant.

yes it does make sense, and that would be very convenient for you and a lot of people, to find exactly what you're looking for with a simple click, nothing else - no comments, additional information..etc do you know how many people post here ? it would be a mess! and plus in order for you to trust someone you gotta know what he/she's done in the past few days/weeks/months.

The counter argument is that you lose discussion and angles about single games. Hard to get a variety of opinions on a single game that you are examining.

I know what you're asking but I like the idea of one thread. (1) Much easier to keep track of everything (2) I have been giving mini writeups and other notes. If I keep it in the same thread I can say "as mentioned earlier in this thread" when making a point I have already made rather than repeating myself over and over as to what kind of player I am (units, betting style, etc) for anybody new that was to enter the thread.

It only takes a couple seconds to click on the last page and scroll back to the current date.

Yes lets create 100 separate threads throughout the year instead of one. If everyone did that everyones threads would be bumped off page 1 and you'd have to search for them daily. Plus imagine going back and trying to track the person over the last month? GL with that. It's not hard to find the picks if they use their spreadsheet. That way you don't have to sift through pages of chatter.
