I think this is just wrong. If I were Uncle Lou, I would fight this one to the bitter end. He just did what other teams have done i.e. Philly, Nucks, Bruins etc.
Fined $3million and they had to surrender their draft picks?
WOW..Fukked up thing is, Lou wont fight this, he had to deal with enough drama all summer..
How can you fine one team but not the others? Ludacris if you ask me

This is what you get when you have a former NBA marketing exec with no proor knowledge of the game of hockey running the NHL. Bettman has been horrible for the league.

Wow, this is absurd. NHL keeps screwing the Devils, when they just did what other teams did.
The other teams somehow get off scot-free

Let me know when Bettman imposes similar penalties for Detroit, Vancouver, Boston, Chicago, and Philly.
I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

I hate Bettman, With out him I believe this league would get so much more media attention.
this is the best sport IMO, and always will be. But something has to be done with Bettman.

Daly and Bettman are just pissed off because Lou was a big part in building the new CBA, and he attacked a glaring weakness.

I honestly wasn't aware of this. I thought it was the NHLPA and NHL who hammered out this deal. Can you provide a link or info that states that L Lam played a big part in building the current CBA? I'm really curious.

NJ also pulled that move with Mogilny to circumvent the cap.

That wasn't circumventing the cap. That happens all the time. Injury exceptions.
If you want to talk cheating the system, the Rangers somehow got the NHL to give them a free draft pick because the dude they drafted died.
Caveat emptor. You shouldn't get another first rounder just because you picked a guy who died later? What about all the teams who draft guys who suffer career-ending injuries?
Bottom line:
The Devils got completely screwed here.

So the Devils get off the hook, which won't please some other GMs around the league who were monitoring the situation. They will no doubt feel the 35-and-over clause in the CBA should have been the overriding factor with Mogilny.
I don't know, it kind of looks like maybe the league want to send a message.

so they're sending a message for something that happened four years ago, which the NHL approved?

NHL head office is a joke. Bettman should be forced to resign for these types of shenanigans. NJ should fight this to the bitter end.

It really is amazing Eleven. This is why I say that Bettman is a tool. They guy is horrible at running the league. Putting teams in non traditional markets was and is just plain dumb. The NHL has no business having 2 NHL teams in Florida and teams in Atlanta, Phoenix, Nashville etc.

I agree with not having teams in Southern States, the main focus there is mainly football am I right or wrong? They could easily have another 2-3 teams in Canada and states such as N.Dakota, Wisconsin, Washington etc...
