2010/11 Picks Of The Day Thread.
For those who remember last year when there were a couple of threads dedicated to picks of the day/night, I've decided to start a contest to keep it cleaner. Here are the settings I've gone with:

    Contest Format: Pool
    Start Date:
    Wed, October, 6, 2010
    End Date:
    Mon, April, 11, 2011
    Round Duration:
    Every Day
    Max Round Plays:
    1
    Max Plays:
    999
    Bet Range: 1
    Base Betting:
    Yes
    Show Pending: Yes
    Point Entry Fee:
    1
    Grading Method:
    Total Wins
    Bets: Sides ML Totals

This isn't a contest to win a lot of points, it's a contest to share our picks/knowledge, so it only costs 1 point to enter. All the picks are made public so you can see what other people are picking and tail them. We could also use this thread for discussion about the picks as well, and on busy nights perhaps tally everyone's pick from the contest and make the most popular pick the SBR pick of the night.

      I'm in for sure.

There should be lots of interest for this contest within the next few weeks. ATM the forum is still pretty much dead...

Don't send me the point, I'm going to open the contest and you sign up there for 1 point. I just want to make sure everyone agrees on the way I set it up.

It looked to me like a rather official thread, my bad

Once the season starts, I'm sure I'll be in here all the time. The play of the day thread was great last year, and having a contest (so nobody actually has to keep track) is a good idea, but I know people liked to play period over/unders and stuff like that. Will we be able to make picks like this in this format? I also think that having a pick of the day thread just for discussing, is an excellent idea, as everyone could benefit from this.

If this idea takes off it will become the official thread of that contest and hopefully the main breeding ground for discussion about picks, like both threads served as last year. At that point, like the other ones, it will get stickied. The SBR moderators have been really awesome with keeping the Hockey Handicapping sub-forum organized.

That is a very good point. SBR currently doesn`t allow for any prop bets like the ones you mentioned. For that reason this idea might not work, or might only work for pure `traditional`bets.

I will probably do another one like last year with any type of bets allowed. All good if we have two as xxx ran one similar to what you are doing last year too. It's a lot of work updating records but I might just use Excel this year to save myself some time. The more the merrier.

Well, if this is something you are going to commit to then I won't bother with a contest for tracking purposes.

Instead, might do a 16 man tournament each week. Then maybe the following week, the winner of the tournament can host a challenge. Could turn it into something interesting. I'll keep you guys updated as I brainstorm.

Yeah I will for sure be doing one seeing as how successful it was last year. 16 man tourney sounds like a fun idea as well.
