Although it's not official yet, TSN and other sources are reporting that Kovalchuk agreed to a 7 year, $60M contract with NJ. Although I would have loved to see him in LA I think that this will help give NJ a solid 1-2 punch. However, Kovy wanted to eventually win a Cup and I doubt that NJ can pull through with an aging Brodeur.

#2this is crazy because when NJ acquired him last year, they had one of the best records in the nhl.. then he arrived and they went on a big losing streak.. they could not buy a win.. and then went on to lose in the 1st round.. so obviously, he was a cancer to their team last year.
and now they sign him for big $$??Comment -

#3I've always thought of NJ as more of a "team" and kovy as more of an individual star player and not so much a team guy so this doesn't really seem to fit to me either. it's like managemnt felt obligated to keep him in NJ since they gave up so much to rent him for a month+Comment -

#8New coach and possibly a new system or atleast a tweak to it this season. He may fit better now compared to before. As a Penguin fan I don't really care to see Ilya on any team in the division unless it was my own.Comment -

#14I also think the same thing. There are just not enough teams in the NHL bidding for his service. The longer this drag on, the more likely I think he will sign with a KHL team.Comment -

#21He is fun to watch but teams aren't paying 10 mil for a guy who plays zero defense and doesn't show up in big games. When your best player doesn't play a two way game, you have no chance to be a serious cup contender.Comment -

At least he isn't scheduling a 1 hour show!
I'd be happy to see kovalchuck play a WHOLE season with NJ. I don't think him playing on the team for a partial season was enough to get the team juices flowing after his addition.Comment -

I say yes. Pretty soon, Kovalchuk is going to realize it's either going to be LA, NJ or Russia. LA and NJ won't let this drag on forever and risk letting the whole free agency go by without doing anything. I also think he will end up in LA.Comment -
