this just comes from my own experience playing the game and history.

I like the Under 5.5 for this game - and the reason is simple.

Being the first game of the series, after other long series played, both teams will be feeling each other out. They get a feel for what they can exploit in the future, but nobody is going to make any risky moves. Any lead, even a 1-0 will be protected.. with emphasis on goal prevention defense, net protection and backchecking. That team up 1-0 will treat the goal like gold. Forwards will backcheck instead of chasing pucks deep in opposing end... defensemen will control game flow.
Lots of puck dumping.

EVEN with Leightons good numbers its always a crap shoot with this tender. He's also facing a much more potent offense than he has at any other time in the playoffs.. The Bruins and Habs struggle to score goals 5 on 5, and the Hawks simply.. Do not.

On the other end.. Niemi isn't a brick wall either. I see the game potentially going into OT and JVR scoring the winner.

if this matchup is any indication it will be an unusually high scoring series.

the last part of your analysis was the key to this bet losing. neither of these goalies had started a scf game and both were starting in playoff games for the first time in both of their careers. gl next time.
