This was probably the worst World Cup squad Canada had assembled in the tournaments history. The only returning member of the gold medal olympic team was Cory Perry... Everyone else either declined the invitation or is still playing for their respective NHL club in the playoffs. Nobody was expecting us to win gold with a bunch of junior hockey kids and 3rd line NHLers.

The WHC means absolutely nothing to anyone in Canada. It never has and never will, we only started sending a team over in 'recent' years. We only believe in top level competition. The WHC is basically a development camp that our young players attend in order to gain international experience.

Crappy tournament for Canada, but like other people stated before in this thread, their roster was one the worst Canada teams in a long time. Most countries have worse than usual team this tournament, but Russia has a monster lineup.

But Team USA kicked Team Canada in the ass in overtime and took the Gold Medal...

So that would be they lost 2 out of the last 3 in important International competition......

and the USA took the heavily favored Canadians to Overtime in the Olympics...

Canada has won that tournament 15 out of the 33 times it's been played including two stretches of 5 golds in a row. The next closest is Russia with 3. TOTAL.

I live in a Minneapolis suburb.....so been next to Canada all my life...my aunt
used to live in Winnipeg....

Crossed the border once with a buddy.....and came back with some cheap booze...something like no tax on it....

Have nothing against Canada.....I do admire their passion for hockey...

By the way.......would love to spend the Minnesota winters in Australia....or anywhere warm.....Vegas comes to mind....

How funny! My home town is 45 minutes from the Minnesota border. Basically lived at the Grand Portage casino and used to visit Duluth and Minneapolis a lot. And hit up Ryden's at the border to buy cheap booze and smokes. Small world.

bored and came home same day...

U remember the Library restaurant in Superior ? Fantastic Sunday Buffet...

Duluth, Lake Superior , Gun Flint Trail....great country...very scenic...

Nice casino in Brainerd....near Mille Lacs...my dad always went up there to play the slots....I think Duluth has Black Bear casino. but its not as fancy as Grand Casino Mille Lacs...

I think I've been to every casino in MN that was around while I was there. Spent a lot of time at Brainerd. We even took a bus there with a bunch of senior citizens when my car was getting fixed. Celebrated my 18th birthday at Grand Portage and they flipped out when they realised I had been going there for 3 years underage.

I don't remember the Library, but I remember a restaurant on the water in Grand Marais. We always used to stop there because you got potato chips with your meal and we didn't get that back home.

This mainly would have been from '91 til 2000. I miss home so much at times but the thought of the winters is enough to blast the homesickness away. I'm blasting the heat right now and it's 64 here.
