Sawyer's NHL Play of the Day 5/4 Sharks vs Red Wings
    SHARKS VS RED WINGS

Hi hockey fans! Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks will meet in the 3rd game of their series at Hockeytown while Sharks are leading the series 2-0.

Sharks won first two games 4-3.

    Let's go deep with numbers..

The Detroit Red Wings are ranked 12 on offense, averaging 2.8 goals per game. The Red Wings are scoring 19.4 % on the power play for a total of 68 power play goals. Detroit Red Wings are averaging 2.9 goals per game, and giving up 2.4 goals against on defense when playing at home. On the other side, The San Jose Sharks are ranked 4 on offense, averaging 3.2 goals per game. The Sharks are scoring 21.1 % on the power play for a total of 74 power play goals. The Sharks are averaging 2.8 goals per game, and giving up 2.7 goals against on defense when playing on the road.

Sharks won 5 straight but it won't be easy to beat Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena specially when we consider Sharks are just 6-20-1 in the last 27 meetings in Detroit. The San Jose Sharks traditionally fare poorly at Joe Louis Arena.

Sharks are 1-4 in their last 5 playoff games as an underdog and Red Wings are 38-14 in their last 52 playoff games as a favourite.

    Goalies

San Jose Sharks Goalie Evgeni Nabokov played 79 games so far and he's 50-17-5-6 so far this season with 2.39 Goals Against Average with 0.921 SV, 4 SO.

I'm confident with Jimmy Howard. He's a much better goaltender then Chris Nogood. Jimmy played 72 games so far and he's 41-20-3-7 so far this season with 2.34 Goals Against Average, 0.922 SV and 4 SO.

    San Jose Sharks Injury Report

Niclaw Wallin (Lower Body, Defenseman) and Brad Staubiltz (Lower Body, Right Wing) are questionable for Tuesday.

    Detroit Red Wings Injury Report

Patrick Eaves (Elbow, Right Wing) is doubtful for tuesday while Kirk Maltby (Shoulder, Left Wing) is out indefinetely for tuesday.

It's hard to beat Red Wings at Joe and Sharks don't have a good history in this area. A return to Joe Louis Arena might be the cure for Wings, as they are 29-4-1 with one tie against the Sharks in their all-time regular-season series at home and 6-3 in the playoffs.

Captain Nickls Lidstrom said, "It will be nice to get the home ice again, We're down 2-0 in this series but we're heading home. It's going to be an important Game 3 coming up in Detroit. We're confident playing at home, but playoffs is different than the regular season. We know we have to play a lot better for 60 minutes to have success against this team.”

Agreed with Lidstrom. Sharks are leading series 2-0 and this is a nice spot for Red Wings to bounce back in my opinion. I'm sure Red Wings will do their best to avoid 0-3 hole.

I'm expecting Red Wings to win at least one game at home, maybe 2 games, why not?

Go with Red Wings tonight! You can pick Red Wings -0.5 as well (+113) in order to reduce the juice.

    Good luck!

Nice writeup. Agree with Detroit as well as you, also Pitt to bounce back against Mon. Lines are pretty reasonable from what I see but if I saw major action favoring Det/Mon I could easily go with the underdogs. Took the unders as well even though I know you don't play them. Cheerio
