The NHL does not have to market itself to the Euro market. The NHL needs to focus on tryin gto capture more of the American market, but so far Bettman (after 20 years) has failed miserably.

They cannot even get people to watch this at night in prime time, I do not know what league can do to get more interest in USA. It is getting worse very year. I bet it and follow scores but would never ever watch it.

They have a deal with NBC for Sunday afternoon games. Night games would not be aired on broadcast TV except in the SCF.

They've had the Sunday afternoon games all season. I think it's a good idea to get the exposure.

Nothing wrong with afternoon games on Saturday/Sunday.

Penguins/Canadiens Game 2 was on Sunday at 2 PM EDT on NBC. NBC isn't going to broadcast a night game until the finals, so if they want an NBC game, it has to be in the afternoon.

NHL will get better ratings with a day game on NBC than any game on Versus. Their deal with Versus is one of the top worst moves ever made for sports broadcasting and a professional league.

Not sure how his being Jewish has any bearing on this, but Bettman has not been a very good commissioner and the NHL needs a new headman.

Pretty much agree, but I guess that was what they could get. I'm sure they'd rather not be on Versus.

Definitely agree about NBC. It's the only choice for the NHL. They get more exposure and better ratings from a 2 PM game on NBC than they would from a 10:30 or whatever game on Versus. Scheduling the two Sunday games for 2 and 8 makes sense to me. Otherwise, what would they have done? Put Sharks/Red Wings on at 10:30 on the East Coast?

I am pretty sure they did much better with the ratings this way than they would have had they done Pitt at 8, followed by San Jose at 10:30.

NHL is something like 89% sold out every night and ticket sales are the best in decades from what I read somewhere.
