I have a tendency to be overtly negative about my teams (not as bad as Joe Paterno, lol) but it is my belief that this is the absolute worst matchup for the eight teams seeded 1-4 in the playoffs, even including Phoenix.
Despite my burning hatred for them, I actually kinda-sorta wanted the rangers to win so the Devils could play Montreal and laugh their way to the second round. However, Henrik Queen McHugePads sucked it in the shootout, and Olli Jokinen blows it against a third-string goaltender who was only sort of good about ten years ago. Not like the rangers were going to beat the Capitals anyway.
So, now it is Devils/Flyers. I'm not sure which matchup would have been worse from a fan's prespective: Flyers or Bruins. The Devils have absolutely sucked against the Flyers for some time now and I assure you that they will figure out a way to make Brian Boucher look like ****ing Jacques Plante. The good news is it is not Boston and we won't be stuck watching Julianpuck try to play 0-0 games. That said, I might be wishing it were Boston after Chris Pronger elbows the whole Devils roster in the face by Game 3.
The Devils have shown a nasty habit of buckling when teams play them tough ... and that's what the Flyers do. And bestill my heart if I see another Devil trying to stickcheck an opponent in front of Brodeur while leading by one and there is less than five seconds to play. HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO ALLOW GOALS WITH NEAR ZERO ON THE CLOCK?! Tackle him, spear him, choke him, anything. Draw a penalty ... the faceoff will end the game. Ugh, I get so angry.
The good news? We'll know how good this team truly is in about 10-15 days. If they lose to the Flyers, then **** 'em, they were shit anyway and Ilya can go get his Duck Tales money from some other sucker.
If they win, maybe this club is somethign after all and justifying my decision to declare them - with no bias whatsoever, haha - the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup Champions!
