It should be more IMHO. That was a brutal hit that could have ended McAmmond's career.

Thing is, Downie has behvioural problems. He's going to do this shit again. I can't understand why the NHL doesn't force him into conselling or something. As it is now, everytime he steps on the ice, he's a time bomb waiting to go off.

To be honest with you I'm actually surprised he got 20 games.

I've seen much worse hits than that and get no more than a 10 game suspension.

I'm with you BBD, i'm surprised that he got this much. Not that i don't think he should have, he clearly has issues and agree that this won't be the last time he'll be in front of the NHL court system. Just that this league never seems to get it right when it comes to this nonsense!

The league is inconsistent when it comes to suspensions. Is the Downie hit on the same level of what Bertuzzi did? Both ended with 20 games. I think Downie should have been suspended, but I think the suspension was excessive when compared to other suspenions. His reputation as a junior player might have factored into a longer suspension, with the NHL wanting to make a point to him early in his career.

maybe the NHL will start getting tougher on players the way the NFL is at handing out suspensions ??

              I sure hope not.

I love old time hockey the best and I don't want the NHL to turn into to something like the NFL did since Roger Goodell's tenure. Lets just face facts here... Fighting in hockey is like peanutbutter and jelly, because it just goes together perfectly.
