Just wondering if any of the 40+ crowd here can recall if there was a line for that game 30 years ago ? Obviously this was pre offshore so it would have to been a local or Vegas line and surely a heavy goal line on the Soviets.

#3Had to be a rather large goal line. Red Army had beaten the NY Rangers, NY Islanders, and Quebec Nordiques. They had won every gold since 1956 except Squaw Valley. In the four Olympics after Squaw Valley the Ruskies had gone 27-1-1 and outscored the opposition 175-44. In head-to-head matchups against the United States the cumulative score over that period was 28-7.Comment -

#5I always held a conspiracy theory on this one lol. I know that earlier this year there were a few tennis matches in which the sever underdog won and people started pointing their fingers towards the Russian mob...imagine that...if they paid or threatened Russia to lose to us? I know it's not true..but imagine.Comment -

i dont think there was a Russian mob back in those days. USSR was on lockdown. there is no way anyone could have threatned the Soviet national team. I am certain that every Soviet player had two KGB men attached to him 24/7.
if this was happening anytime after 1991, i would definately agree with you that Mob could influence matches.Comment -
