As an American, I enjoy beating Canada more than any other country.
They claim its their sport when their are more NHL teams in the southwest than in the whole entire country of Canada.
Love it love it love it.
Personally, I grew up in a family, mostly, born in Canada, and I got a lot of smug comments about the U.S., from them.
So it satisfies a personal retribution, as well.
USA! USA! USA!

Come on man that's a stupid statement. You have 10 times as many people as us up north of course you are going to have more teams. Your population density is way higher than ours. Half the teams down there are a joke anyways, it's still our game. Plus on all those teams, the majority of the players are Canadian I bet you. You guys can keep Nascar as your own, we won't go near it, we promise.
Anyways congrats to you guys again, I punched a hole in my wall when Kesler scored the empty netter.

The U.S. has a great draw going forward, winner of Switzerland/Belarus then prob the Czechs or Fins in semi's. Canada has to win their pre quarterfinal then they prob take the gas face against the Russians.

Great game, indeed. One of the most exciting I've ever seen.
Brodeur looked like a rookie in this one. Canada was the better team, but USA had the better goalie. Would be nice to see a rematch later in the tournament.

US people need not be chanting USA, but Ryan Miller. If we swap goalies last night, Canada wins 6-1. The one positive for Canada fans is that we lost a game that meant nothing, and the coaching staff knows they can't play Brodeur anymore. That's big.
And kchien says it sucks to be Canadian, hahaha!!! Sure buddy, assuming your American, your country is in great shape these days.

Congrats USA backers!
We saw last night that great players don't always make a great team... Canada played well, but nowhere near what they can do.

Really??? Yeah sure it was like a friendly game! And it also doesn't matter because now Canada has to win 4 games in 6 days, and Canada will play Russia in the quarter finales....
But hey, assuming your a Canadian, I understand you say whatever to stay positive
What I would be worried of, if I was Canadian, is that the USA team played with much more heart, energy, passion and teamwork.... And to fix this, it won't be enough to swap goalies as you say.

Oh I'm sorry swiss88, I didn't realize an extra game against Germany was going to cost us. Canada clearly isn't at the form they need to be, and an extra game is going to be beneficial.
And in order to win the Gold, we would have to beat Russia whether it be in the quarters or in the finals. Let's be honest swiss, US won a PRELIMINARY GAME, and the media outlets are going insane. Let me repeat for you, PRELIMINARY GAME. Were not talking Gold medal game, were talking PRELIMINARY GAME.
And your telling me the US played with much more heart, energy, passion and teamwork.....haha, give me a break buddy. Were you watching the same game? US played 75% of the game on the defensive. I'll agree they played with passion and heart as they should, but they got dominated in every aspect, except goalkeeping.
P.S. Sir, your an idiot.

Wow calm down, I didn't think you'd be so upset after my reply, I just expressed my opinion there is no need to insult me..
Don't worry I know this was a preliminary game, and I know if Canada are to win Gold they will have to beat Russia at any point of the tournament, what I think is that Canada won't be ready to win against Russia so early in the tournament the way they have played so far. (--> Please, I guess you disagree completely with this so don't bother insulting me )
If, as you say, Canada is the best hockey nation in the world, tell them to show it on the ice
PS: I think Russia will beat Canada in the quarter finales, do you want to bet some points Regul8er?!

swiss88........sorry for the insult bud, as you can tell this hockey thing is firing me up. I'm not saying your a fair-weather fan, but so many non-hockey people have come out of woodwork today, that its driving me crazy. I live in Cincy, so as you can imagine I'm catching serious heat. I got about 20 text messages and voice mails last night from people that don't know a thing about the sport. To make matters worse, my wife invited some friends and family over last night. It was terrible dealing with that, although I was a good sport. If they should play again, and Canada gets just decent goaltending, Canada will be victorious. They dominated from start to finish, except they couldnt put the cookie in the net, oh well it happens.
As for points, I'd be more then happy to. Let me try and save a few more up, and I'll find you Wednesday.
I heard that Ryan Miller is being awarded a solo Gold medal for his heroic performance last night. Should the US win gold (don't think they have a chance) he will get 2.

Actually bigbank, no I would not (and doubt many others would either). From living both in America and Canada, there are many similarities and many differences betwen the people. Canada is happy with keeping their accomplishments within its borders, the US spreads their accomplishments and lets the whole world know. This goes further then just athletics. I think this perceived arrogant attitude might be why the US seems to have such a bad reputation and so many enemies worldwide, while Canada seems to have none.
Don't get me wrong, I'm currently living in America, and love the country, meaning this is a completely unbiased opinion.

I must have just dealt with the worst in your country during my sons hockey days. Many trips to Toronto over the years and god forbid you go there and beat them. Kids getting pelted with cups, fans telling us fukk the USA, lady grabbing american flag from one of our moms and throwing it on the ground, etc. Crap only happened when we won. Our team of 14 yr olds had to be escorted out of the rink because the Canadian fans were out of control because we had the trophy. So it seems the Canadians are a lot more like the USA than you would like to admit. Maybe not you but many of your fellow countrymen, I should say women because they were far worse than the me.
Hats off to the people of Quebec though. They could not have been better hosts when my boys played in the Quebec International
Pee Wee Hockey Tournament. Great times, great city.

I wouldn't like to be in your place then! It must not be nice to get taunted by a lot of Americans who know nothing about hockey....!
Yesterday I was rooting for Canada, but I must say I really like the way this USA team is playing, they know they're not the most talented team so they played smart hockey vs the Canadians. I don't see them going all the way, but if Miller keeps playing like that nothing is impossible.
And I know hockey is a religion in Canada, but to me it's a bit arrogant to say that Canada is the best hockey nation in the world. I know Canada is the home of hockey, but I would expect "the best hockey nation" to have won more than 1 Gold medal at the Olympic Games over the last 50 years. I should add that I live in Switzerland, so I'm kind of "neutral" (as always) on this subject..
About our bet: I pick Russia to be in the semi-finals, you pick Canada to be in the semi-finals, the loser sends 50 points to the winner by the end of the week. Do you accept? I won't have the 50 points right after the game, so if I lose I'll accumulate them throughout the week and send them to you during the weekend, is that ok? It's a small wager in terms of points, but if I lose at least it will teach me not to bet against Canada
But I'm quite confident actually!
