according to NHL.com (10:52pm):
TSN has learned that the Calgary Flames are expected to announce that they have traded forwards Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust to the New York Rangers in exchange for forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.
Jokinen, 31, has 11 goals and 24 assists in 55 games with the Flames this season.
Wow, Jokinen has been a HUGE flop for Darryl Sutter and the Flames. They had set their expectations pretty high for him to be centering Jarome Iginla on the #1 line. Sutter even decided to let go 39-goal scorer Mike Cammalleri on the UFA market to make cap space for Jokinen.
Contrarily to others, I think CGY got a pretty solid return for Dion Phaneuf. But this one is all about Sutter giving up totally on the Jokinen experiment. I guess his value just isn't that high anymore, dating back to his days with Phoenix, which also brought poor results. However, Higgins is awful and Kotalik is just barely an average 2nd line winger. Not good at all for the Flames!
