Good start to this thread with a 2-0 night, thanks to a good defensive effort by the Stars in the dying minutes of the 3rd period.

I will post my plays for Saturday night's game tomorrow afternoon. I have a few strong leans but I'll study a few other thing before posting them.

This is my card for Saturday night:

* CHI@CAR - Over 5.5 (-110)
Many players have started contributing more to the Canes offence, most notably Eric Staal since taking over captaincy. Guys like Cullen and Whitney have also chipped in nicely since CAR started playing well. I believe they will be able to get 3, maybe even 4, at home against a below-average goalie in Cristobal Huet. On the Hawks' side, well you just have to guess that the offensive firepower will produce against a weak Carolina defence.

* MIN@SJ - Under 5.5 (-110)
Minny plays a very conservative style on the road. Recently, they've played many games away from the Xcel Energy Centre that had only 1 goal scored after 2 periods. The Wild also shutout the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Centre earlier this week. Harding has been doing just fine for Minny lately too. On the Sharks' side, McLellan will hope for a better defensive effort from his troops after giving 3 early goals to the Hawks in their last game. I'm hoping for a Nabokov bounce-back performance.

* ATL ml (+125)
For some reason, I have a strong lean on that one. Rinne is so-so this year, and Hedberg has been the Thrashers's most consistent goalie for a while. Nashville is not scoring goals, and Atlanta's getting contribution up front from many guys including Slater, Peverley and Kane. Really like this play!

The Isles are not the high-scoring team that they had become a few week ago. The Moulson-Tavares duo has cooled down. They're having trouble finding the back of the net, and a hot Vokoun won't do any good. Also, I will bet on many FLA unders, especially at home, as long as they're without Horton and Booth in their lineup.

Fairly easy win tonight, gotta love those! I didn't get online in time to make a play on the Salami, but I would have loved the Under 34... it would have been an easy winner tonight.

For some reason I cannot explain, this line dropped in the last hour from -135 to -125. I decided to snag it because FLA is trapping well since the beginning of 2010, and ANA plays a pretty conservative style of road hockey. A Vokoun-Hiller confrontation should mean a tight, low-scoring game. Yesterday before my under pick for the NYI@FLA game, I said I'd be on the Panthers' under a lot as long as their top two forwards are sidelined. They haven't done anything to make me change my mind.

* Grand Salami - Under 22.5 (-120) risking $120 to win $100
Although the Sabres-Pens game could go either way in terms of low-scoring or high-scoring, I'm feeling confident in this one. 3 of the 4 games on schedule seem like decent candidates for the under 5.5, plus the Canes-Oilers gives no certainty for the over, although CAR by themselves could score 4+.

* CAR ml (-140) risking $140 to win $100
Self explanatory. Just bet against those poor Oilers, and ride the red-hot team.

Nittymaki has been playing exceptionally well recently, and collectively the Lightning are starting to play a pretty solid defensive game too. They're one of the rare teams in the past week that only got scored on 3 times against the Caps in WSH, and that's probably because Mike Smith was in goal.

Like someone else pointed out in the POTD thread, the CGY Flames are an under machine at the Saddledome. Also, let's not overrate those Hurricanes. They've been doing well lately, but they don't have much offensive fire power aside from Staal and Whitney. I'm hoping for a solid rebound performance from two very good goalies, Kipper and Ward.

I took pretty much my worst NHL beat tonight, with the Isles scoring with :11 left in the 3rd to make it 3-3.

It ruined my NYI u2.5 play and I lost the NSH ml with the Isles winning the SO. Atrocious!

It's looking like a 1-3-1 night that'll make me lose $250 just because of that STUPID BEAT.
