    ***Official*** 2009 Hockey Fights Thread
I've played hockey my whole life and have been in my fair share of fights, both in league and on the shinny with friends. The best part is is that when the game is over all the fight has done is build mutual respect for those involved and does build stronger friendship -- it's called sportsmanship. It's a part of the game and anyone who doesn't understand it needs to sit on the bench or pass out towels to the real men playing hockey.

Anyways, I want somewhere to post links/talk about this aspect of the game. I'm watching Leafs/Habs and there was 2 fights in the first 10 minutes of the game.!!! Gotta love the intensity on opening night! And LOL at the league trying to reduce fighting since the 04-05 season and each subsequent year having an increase per game in fighting majors.

On a totally unrelated aspect which is controversial to my enjoyment of this aspect of the game comes from my education at McMaster and taking a Sport Psychology course. EJ McGuire, NHL Director of Scouting and former assistant coach of the Flyers, Hawks and Sens and now involved in the series Making the Cut gave a guest speaking lecture in the class.

He has written and completed lots of research but of course has heaps of experience with the game. He told me that the players whose role was the tough-guy/fighter/enforcer HATED this role. He had sent me an email discussing this even further and had listed 10 points further proving his point. Stupid McMaster deleting the email account after I graduated with the email going bye-bye.

Hopefully there is some interest in this topic and we can get in some decent convos.
